When do you think the Playstation 5 will come out? Will it come out in 2019?

I would say exactly 1 year earlier then that.

If the pro didn't exist I would say 2019. It will give them a little more juice once they get it down super cheap late in the gen.

    I say a 2020 announcement with a 2021 release at lease.

Even with as weak as the hardware is it can still play games at great quality. Also there is a ton of games set to release in 2018 and 2019 for the PS4.

Early 2020 announcement. November 2020 launch. Sony saw how a less than single year hype cycle helped the PS4 (although them taking advantage of Microsoft's mistakes helped).

Why do you guys want a PS5, you just got a PS4 Pro. You shouldn't need a new console every 3 years; and 4k shouldn't realistically be surpassed for a very long time even if there are 8k displays out there already. Do you just want to throw money at Sony? Hell I was as close to a playstation fanboy as I could've ever been in the PS1/2 days, but ffs lol

    Isn't that called a PC ?

Oh I don't want a PS5. What I rather have is two-three years from now they drop original PS4 support (as in releasing new games) and two- three years after that they do a PS5 announcement and a year after that PS5 comes out..

In all likely hood that is what both MS and Sony will do with there new systems.

I'd like to see the consoles get a really good cpu and an upgradable graphics slot. IPC doesn't increase that much, so giving you guys something close to a Ryzen 7 1800x in that 6 year window, and since consoles pretty much use AMD anyway, the Vega version of a 1070 or 1080 with a proprietary connection so the two companies keep their future upgrade profitability prospects ... its gg. The hardware itself would last quite a while, the ones who want to stay on top of tech and the latest settings can, and they end up being like mini-pcs with console specific OS.

This would mean Joe Blow who still has a 1080 tv can keep the low end model and have his 60 fps and high settings, the person with the 4k gets the same with an upgraded model, the future person who buys an 8k tv can upgrade their console gpu and still have those frames and settings too. In turn, since the consoles become so PC like (well, sort of Apple like, because hardware and OS are extremely limited, controlled/optimized); PC ports become less of a crap shoot and gaming design in general becomes more streamlined; and the 8 core cpu market for PCs becomes the standard for gaming. I think it would be great for all gamers and for developers alike.

    eh, one can dream, right?

I'd happily trade in 4K support for 60fps games.
Now, the Pro has just been released, but I get the feeling that for this generation (of Pro / Skorpio) achieving both 4K and 60 fps will not be a thing, as apparently 4K is favoured (Judging on that what was shown on E3'17). My guess the only games that will achieve this will be Indie titles. Personally I find the difference in going from 30 to 60fps much more enjoyable than going from 1080 30fps to 4k 30fps.

Never, we will see a PS4Pro2
All right, gentleperchildren, let's review. The year is 2024 - that's two-zero-two-four, as in the 21st Century's perfect vision - and I am sorry to say the world has become a pussy-whipped, Brady Bunch version of itself, run by a bunch of still-masked clots ridden infertile senile sissies who want the Last Ukrainian to die so they can get on with the War on China, with some middle-eastern genocide on the side

You're joking but if the current/next gen of GPUs can hold up and remain stable in laptops then you might be onto something. Consoles will become more PC (power in terms of the average PC rig) but sitting on custom operating systems dedicated to gaming.

I wasn't really joking, it's the most likely scenario.

    And now for the joke:
They might also just drop the 4 in it and instead of releasing new consoles as a package deal - they are going to release hardware upgrades, new CPU, new GPU, as an internal upgrade or external augment. Similar to how they treated VR.

sega CD and 32X style? and I wish they would give console owners more options to choose some settings in exchange for 30 vs 60 fps. I feel if they don't do cpus in the 3.5-4.0 GHz range and something in line with 1080 performance or better if they both do a 3 year refresh or a new console, they are taking the piss.

I don't think consoles can ever die, since there is a certain level of convenience and more open/laid back feeling available to them. More pausable games, more same console co-op style games, most people play on a tv from a couch, instead of 'hunched over' a monitor, more simple to buy without worrying about 'specs', upgrades, or dealing with windows. But I sure wish they'd make them more pc-like in performance/capability and upgradability personally; and drop the whole 'pay to access online multiplayer' crap ... oh, and one more thing, less bickering between the two that feels anti-consumer such as year plus exclusives like Sony has with Destiny 1 & 2, MS had with GTA IV, and things like that thing that lets people play together across all platforms that both have been pissy about for different reasons.

I don't expect a ps5 ever. They'll make versions of the ps4 with better hardware every few years. No more problems with backwards compatibility and most big games will work with the last 2-3 iterations. Microsoft is already doing just that with the xbox one, xbox one s and xbox one x. I wouldn't expect a whole new console from either of them at this point.
I don't think this matters nearly as much as you think it does.

Yeah consoles and their convenience of paying for online multiplayer ... also do you know that you can connect PC to TV trough HDMI? I don't see any convenience in having console, since sentence "just put disc in and play" do not exist anymore as consoles have day 1 patch just like PC games have them. Also IMO if you buy PC you only have to "worry" about them when you buy them (and they should give you more power than any console for 3-5 years, and you CAN upgrade it if you want, which have more sense than buying whole new device every 3 years).

OT: PS5 will be really soon since Sony and MS just love to release new ones. Maybe you want slim (useless) or HD stretch to 4k pro console? There is no reason to buy this crap unless you swim in money, and you want to play those few 'exclusive' titles they have. . .

on the bright side because most games are made for consoles primarily they'll run on toaster pcs for the next 3-4 years.

i don't care much for consoles, i don't like the fact that gaming innovation in general is bottlenecked by the mediocre hardware and i don't like games that have their features and mechanics based around the control pad button layouts. in other words if i never saw another console port ever again, that would be a good day.

its essentially reached the point where consoles are just really crappy pcs with terrible control options. most games i've played with control pad support play like shit with a mouse and keyboard. or we've moved into the realm of menus, menus menus menus. meh.

the last era of consoles lasted 7 years, from 2006 to 2013. so far this generation of consoles has lasted 4 years? so 3 more years is likely.

I hope not until like, 2020, I got a Wii U in December 2015 and was pretty happy about it, was a little upset when I realized the Switch was coming out after just a year of me owning a Switch

So if I get a ps4 pro at say, the end of this year, and they announce a Holiday 2019 launch for the PS5, that would kind of suck.

You do realize you are talking to someone who has a decent PC right?

Hooking a PC up to a TV and using a controller is a thing, but the titles available on console can generally be more casually played, paused, etc. Tell me, what percentage of PCMR are playing with a controller on their TV from the couch in their living room?

You aren't thinking about average consumers. It is the same mistake people make when they come here and complain about average players in WoW. The common person isn't searching or maybe can't absorb the in depth info. They buy a PC from best buy, just like they buy a console. It is just the way it is. There are enthusiasts in a subject, then there is everyone else. Some people are into cars, and know fine details ... so you get 'hypermilers' who can get 100 mpg out of a Prius, then you get Leadfoot McDumbass who can't understand why they are getting 30 mpg driving like an asshole and blame the car, not themselves, because its easier.

I have an XB1, pretty much only played Destiny on it and a bit of Forza 6. Most of the other games in my library I never really touched. I prefer my PC if the game is on it. Might play Destiny 2 on PC. That doesn't mean I can't want console players to have better stuff, nor that I can't understand a 'common man' viewpoint on why you might see tens of millions of consoles sold each generation. If you can't see things from perspectives you don't personally relate to, well, enjoy your head in the sand.

The better consoles are, because they are mainstream; just ask brig here how many PS4s and XB1s have been sold ... the better the games in general are made, which means more/better games for the PC, especially cross platform. The closer the consoles are to mainstream (gaming) PCs, the less shitty ports like GTA IV we get. When the tools for the market of over 100 million consoles is nearly identical to the tools for the PC market, it makes the developers jobs/lives much easier and we, the consumers, benefit from it.

I don't find -any- console exclusives interesting or 'worth it'. I got the XB1 and Destiny because my significant other at the time wanted one and to play it; I tried to get her to get a PS4 but she was an XBox/Halo girl. So we had two XB1s and played Destiny and I enjoyed it off and on for the 3 or so years. All the while, I still played my PC now and then, and even built a entire new PC. Personally, outside maybe Nintendo to play with my kids or something like that; I'm done with consoles for myself, as they don't entice or engage me; but it is a HELL of a lot more simple to do say Mario Kart type game with 3 players on a console than it is on a PC; and if I don't get a switch, a Wii, or something like that; I'll just keep playing my classic NES with them if my patience can survive trying to get the over 30 year old carts to load up properly.
