Every single time a civilian is killed that's just a higher chance of others being radicalized. Would be great if ISIS stopped using these people as human shields but we all know that's not going to happen.

Well with that comparison, it's a pretty big increase.

If you want to destroy ISIS you have to make tough calls. ISIS doesn't do us any favors by hiding behind civilians. It is either "do nothing and let them grow" or kill ISIS and some civilian hostages to save thousands down the road. Again, it is tough but it is much better than what war used to entail just less than 70 years ago. Do you have any idea how long they probably spend agonizing over these decisions and weighing the risks?

If aliens came here with hostile intent we would be screwed. We would have no chance.

Y'know we've been bombing the Middle East off and on for 15 years or so using that logic and so far the threat doesn't seem to have lessened.

Surely that depends on their intent and capabilities.

I said hostile intent. Capabilities? You think a species that could travel through space to earth wouldn't have the capability to just wipe us out at will? Our weapons wouldn't be anything to those who have the technological means to travel great distances through space.

We could easily defeat them with a macbook.

Hostile intent to do what? Annihilation, invasion, theft, trade? Just because they have superior transportation doesn't necessarily mean they have better weaponry and they may be limited in the amount of material they can bring or logistical support.

US is run by corporations, which just want more money. They lobby our politicians to wage wars in areas rich in resources, natural or otherwise. Why you think America has gone nuts over Trump winning presidency? He's the embodiment of this very system.
