Heroes Of The Storm Hotfix Notes – June 28, 2017

    http://us.battle.net/heroes/en/blog/...2017-6-28-2017

We're looking at quite a few much needed heroes balance changes in this one:

    • Genji
    • Malthael
    • Thrall
    • Zeratul
    • Zul'jin
    • Medivh
    • Probius
    • Brightwing
    • Lúcio
    • Tassadar
    • Uther
    • D.Va
    • and Dehaka

And of course, a hotfix without bugfixes would be no true hotfix!

Malthael still feels way too strong, but the "focus morales malth" strat is very popular now so... meh.

Is this an issue? Cause it's not something I've encountered...or heard about.

I apologize in advance if this ends up being a super noob-ish question but...am I missing something when it comes to Malthael? I really want to enjoy playing as him, since he's one of my favorite characters from Diablo and I've been waiting since HotS launched for him to be made a character, but whenever I do play as him, I can't help feeling a tad...underwhelmed. It just feels like anything he's supposed to be good at, there are other heroes that can do so with greater ease. Tychus can kill tanks/high health targets at a safer distance, Lunara has better baseline poison, Greymane can dive in and disengage a lot easier, a ton of assassins/specialists can do better sustained dps against objectives, etc. etc. And it's not just been my own personal experience; a lot of the people I've seen play him on youtube and such haven't really seemed to do all that spectacular with him either...at least in any of the videos I've watched thus far.

Does his high winrate literally come down to fact that most people used to underestimate and ignore him, giving him a chance to actually cause some damage? Or, again, am I straight up just missing something here?

@RadasNoir For me, I find he's similar to Nazeebo in that he really comes into his own at later talent tiers, paticularly at 13/16. If you can get your trait onto several heroes at once and maintain it his sustain is extreme through Soul Rip, Memento Mori allows you do some sizeable damage to high health heroes and eventually you outsustain your enemies to death.

Regarding Malthael - he is also really strong sololaner and I like his talents now way more. Especially at lvl 4, You have soo many choices.
Though I wonder why they haven't decreased the CD of Last Rites.

The problem with Last Rites isn't the cd, it is armor and immunity.

Well, that would be less of a problem when it actually kills those who it is supposed to kill, but when your long heroic is countered by bullshit, it does not matter how long the cd is, it is worthless.

Overall, he's the most effective tank buster in the game, bar none. He's a melee poker, with strong heavy engage survival, but lacks significant burst damage. He progresses fights purely because he melts multiple targets over time, and at a significant pace if allowed to do so.

Build: Fear the Reaper -> Black Harvest -> Touch of Death/Cold Hand (Mortality vs. Cho'Gall) -> Tormented Souls (Last Rites in skirmish matches) -> situational -> Memento Mori -> preference.

If you don't take Memento Mori at 16, you might as well skip playing him. That talent is his late game damage through and through.

Thanks for all the advice, guys.

I understand the importance of Memento Mori (I do usually like to look up talent builds on HotS Logs and such before playing a given hero) and I know there are other "late bloomer" type heroes in the roster, but it still feels like quite the wait for level 16, especially given my other issues with his capabilities.

And I also know the idea is that I'm supposed to try and get Reaper's Mark on as many enemy targets as I can, both as my main source of damage and sustain, but unless I have Tormented Souls handy or land a good Death Shroud, it feels like a chore to try to get and maintain Marks on everything, especially if enemy team members are wailing on me the entire time. And even if/when I get Marks on people, and am jamming on the Q button, it still feels like any team with halfway decent CC or burst damage can simply shut me down, regardless.

I dunno...maybe it's really just a "git gud" kind of thing, for me. Need to get better about my positioning, better about knowing when to go all in, or hang back and poke with Death Shroud....that sort of thing. To paraphrase Pallytime: My mechanical understanding of a hero may not necessarily line up with my actual skill when playing that hero.

Thanks again for the advice guys, and sorry about derailing the topic.
