Clarification needed, Physical and non physical damage in Rift?

Am I correct in assuming that if it has an element( earth fire air water life death) then it is non physical damage?

Thus putting points into something that increases physical attacks will have no affect on attacks that do element damage correct?

if the ability damage does not end in an elemental damage type (ie non-physical) than it is physical.

edit: physical damage increases arrow damage that deals physical damage

edit 2: rift blade, ay?
