When two pretty violent groups claim to represent the ordinary German worker, it's not surprising that they're going to go at each other hammer and tongs. Quite obviously, that wouldn't have happened if the commies had been for the worker and the Nazis had been for, say, the aristocrats or the classical liberal types.

As like today the alt right, the nazis adressed the normal people. With exactly the same methods they did those days. Which does not make them "left", actually the NSDAP was built out of the "Völkisch" movement, which was extreme right wing.

Yes, they were *national* socialists, as opposed to Stalin and the *international* socialists. But they were still - get this - socialists. And we all know which side of the aisle the socialists belong.

Take a look at the 25 point Nazi program - the inviolable one Hitler refused to allow any changes to. Basically it's a mix of overturning the Treaty of Versailles, German nationalism, and socialism. Look at some of these points:

7. We demand that the state be charged first with providing the opportunity for a livelihood and way of life for the citizens. If it is impossible to sustain the total population of the State, then the members of foreign nations (non-citizens) are to be expelled from the Reich.

8. All citizens must have equal rights and obligations.

For historical stuff I honestly prefer more reputable sources. Jonah Goldberg of National Review did an excellent book charting the history of "progressive" politics called "Liberal Fascism". Very good book, and well researched.
