Finding a guild as a tank

It is so difficult finding a decent guild in need of a tank. Im geared, have a ton of experience and legendary parses. I don't know what to do.

I'm primarily using the wow forums. Any tips for finding a mythic raiding guild as a tank?

go to wowprogress and select your spec on recruitment
might take some talks to find a guild offering you are permanant raidspot as tank tho

Game is too old, most half-decent guilds have established tanks since forever.

All the other terribad guilds all have some sort tank where he some sort of veteran or GM or officer or good friend or GF, bla bla blabla therefor he/she remains despite being bad or average, etc etc.

In other words if you wanna raid as a Warrior.

    1)Be DPS.

2)Start your own guild so you can actually tank.

3)Be part of a new guild before they establish tanks.

4)Talk with a guild that might need a 3rd tank, play as DPS, tank when needed, proceed to become one of the main tanks over expansion etc etc.

Reality is, dont expect to find a good guild, which is a major downside.

Tanks have the easiest time getting into PUGs, and the hardest time getting into guilds.

Why? Well, think about it. Every guild NEEDS two tanks. So any guild actually alive and progressing will by definition already have two tanks. Any guild that does NOT have two tanks is in big trouble, so either dying or dead and you don't want to join that.

The sweet spot of an active guild who for some reason or another wants an new/extra tank is VERY hard to hit. Especially if you're not willing to server transfer or wait out the period a damaged guild might need to get back on its feet with you.

Finding a spot as tank is quite hard if you aim for at least decent quality guild (obviously you'll have guild who can clear NM or HM who search for everything).

And it's even harder now at the beginning of a tier. The guilds who are progressing allready have a stable roster (or they wouldn't make progress) and usually don't search for tanks during progress at most a few DPS if their logs are excellent, maybe a healer.

And more often than not those guild allready have 1-2 DPS who are willing to play tank if a spot may become free.

That said it's not impossible. My guild (a 5/9 MM nothing amazing but still decent imho) recruted 2 tanks in 3 weeks because of summer vacation starting. You may have a chance there. Make contact in the guilde you aim for to know if a tank spot may become free, and apply instantly if it happens.

I am currently 5/9, and I joined this guild at the start of Nighthold (as a tank). For one, read through as many posts as you can (going to warcraft forums and ctrl-f "tank" works pretty well). Generally, if a guild is looking for a tank, then you'll be accepted since filling the spot is so important.

Secondly, if you haven't already, make your own post on warcraft forums. This serves as both an extra place to advertise yourself, and a place for people to look at all of your information in one place.

Also, new to legion, try pugging some high M+. People will be impressed by a tank who does a bunch of 17+ keys, and you don't need a guild to find a good group.

As other people have mentioned, being willing to switch realms is nearly a requirement, as it vastly increases the amount of guilds you can join.

Lastly, there are some guilds with multiple raid teams (an example I know of is Eternal Kingdoms on Proudmoore). If you're desperate, you can talk to the GM of one of these guilds. What they will sometimes do is let you raid with one of the weaker teams, as an extended trial before being promoted to one of the upper teams. Obviously not a great solution, but it is a possibility.

What I would do if I wanted to tank would be to join someone who needs dps. Once you're in make it clear that you're willing to tank if the opportunity arises. Like others have said it's hard to find a tank spot in an established guild.

Dont wait for a spot to open, you'd need to be outrageously lucky to find a decent guild that way. What you'll find is almost every guild, when they aren't happy with a tank, will have other roles ready to swap over or other tanks already lined up to trial, so you gotta be active about it. Basically, just go around asking top end guilds to compete for a spot, and if you're as great as you say you are you'll get a trial pretty quickly. Just be prepared to fight for a spot and realm change where necessary. Good luck.

Be flexible. Learn your whole class and get decent at the DPS specs (I prefer fury as i can't stand the arms playstyle. A good DPS is way easier to get a spot than as a tank.

The current guild I tank for I joined as DPS. Our MT got busy with RL stuff and I would fill in since I was actively building Tank gear with fury (WoD). On Heroic Blackhand progression they told me to swap to tanking full time since I was becoming easier to heal.

Look, I looked through the other comments and most are true, but are not giving any tips on how to actually find a guild as a tank, so I''\m gonna focus on that.

    1. Be ready to realm transfer. I guess at his point you established that not many guilds need tanks, but there are still some(ppl die, get RL commitments etc. and have to leave. you know the deal) so you need to widen your opportunities. (remember, now you can use gold to transfer)

    2. make a post on https://eu.battle.net/forums/en/wow/874708/ and treat it like an application. state your XP, hours you can raid, expectation etc. and most importantly put your battle tag there. You'll get quite a few shitty offers, but you'd be surprised by some!

Durring draenor "HFC" my guild disbanded, where I tanked since wrath. I used the above method and got into a 10/13 Mythic guild ( worldrank ~150) on a low pop realm, while being 13/13HC only cuz none would transfer. I raid there to this day 6/9M TOS.

Last time I posted my availability in B-net forums, I got several offers. You can also just pug some guild raids and get recruited that way. Both have worked for me.
