    Help choosing a laptop ($1000-1400)

Hey guys, having missed on the Prime Day deal, I went shopping around for laptops anyways based on what I had seen listed by chaud.

My budget is to not exceed $1400, ideally land in $1300.

So I saw the following laptops.

    https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

MSI GS Series GS63VR Stealth Pro-422 15.6" Intel Core i7 6th Gen 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD Windows 10 Home 64-Bit Gaming Laptop

    $1300 bucks.

    https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16834234455

ASUS ROG GL502VM-DS74 15.6" Intel Core i7 7th Gen 7700HQ (2.80 GHz) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 16 GB Memory 128 GB SSD 1 TB HDD Windows 10 Home 64-Bit Gaming Laptop

    $1279

Seems like I get a better deal with the ASUS than the MSI.

What do you guys think? do you have any additional suggestions for laptops?

For reference, the list of the games I like to play:

    WoW
    FFXIV
    Guild Wars 2
    Dragon Age titles
    Mass Effect Titles
    Witcher 3
    Total War: Warhammer
    Skyrim

I don't care much for high end shooters, though I might give Bioware's anthem a try.

I loved the help you guys gave me with building a desktop 4 years ago (it's still running everything perfectly and I've only updated to a SSD and a new graphics card).

    Thanks in advance!

For 1080p they both should be fine prob could go cheaper. There was a laptop going for 900 with the same video card like a 2 weeks ago on amazon.

Those US prices are crazy. $866 for an i7-7700, 16gb ram and a GTX 1060 at 6GB? A laptop like that sets you back €1.799-1.899 or the equivalent of $2.125 in Europe :/

I'm partial to ASUS ROG. I've had 3 altogether over the span of like 5-6 years. All of them still work I just upgraded each time. Current series is solid, I got the top-end this time with the G752 series, but the 2 I got before were the entry-level ons at $1600CAD. Worth it, very well-designed pieces of tech.

MSi is also good and I definitely have heard good things but I can only truly vouch for what I know.

I've had a terrible experience with my very first €2.000 MSI laptop and probably would never buy them again. I'm also looking at ASUS as an alternative.

Best Macbook Pro you can afford, bootcamp Windows, last 2x as long as any other laptop /thread.

Just get the same Acer Predator Helios 300 from the Prime Day deal. It'll only run you $1050, unless you really want to spend on the higher end of your budget, but you wouldn't have set your budget at $1000-$1400 if you preferred to stay low. I missed it, waited almost a month, couldn't find anything close to as good for the price, and pulled the trigger at $1049.99 anyway. I love it so far, it rivals my 7700k/rx 580 desktop.

    https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator...tor+helios+300

    - 7700HQ
    - Full 6GB GTX 1060
    - 16GB DDR4
    - 256 GB SSD
    - Runs significantly cooler under load than my previous 6700hq/960m laptop
    - IPS screen, not the best but still IPS
    - Decent battery life
    - Red backlit keyboard
    - Stream capable, plays WoW really well, even plays PUBG really well which is terribly demanding since it's horribly optimized.

Only cons would be if you don't like red and/or need a bigger HD, in which case it wouldn't be hard to install your own.

Buy it with a credit card that will give you price protection (if it goes on sale again) and an extended warranty (mine gave me 2 years on top of the 1 year manufacturer warranty)

    That's the joke.

    @op

The Asus one seems fine, looks like you can find it even cheaper.

LE: seems like the thread is almost a month old, the op probably made his decision already.
