Exclamation Russia ready to expel U.S. diplomats if Trump OKs sanctions: Report

The Russian government is ready to expel dozens of U.S. diplomats and claim American property if President Trump signs a bill imposing new economic sanctions, a Russian newspaper reported Thursday.

The move would mark a belated retaliation for a similar move by President Obama in late 2016 to protest what the U.S. said was the Kremlin’s attempts to meddle in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Russian President Vladimir Putin refrained from responding at the time in hopes of forging a better relationship with the incoming Trump administration.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, officials in the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs are now prepared to seize U.S. Embassy property in parts of Moscow and expel 35 U.S. diplomats if Mr. Trump signs a bill, overwhelmingly approved by the U.S. House on Tuesday, that would increase sanctions against Russia. The Senate has not yet voted on the bill, but is expected to follow suit.

Mr. Trump has raised questions about the sanctions bill, and the lack of flexibility it gives the president to waive sanctions, but the White House has signaled in recent days the president is likely to sign the bill.

Russia has also threatened to reduce the number of American diplomats allowed in the U.S. mission in Russia to match the number of Russians working in the embassy in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Putin has repeatedly denied Moscow tried to tamper with the U.S. presidential vote. On a visit to Finland Thursday, he expressed his growing frustration with the sanctions push in Washington over the incident.

Yikes. I wonder how far this spat will go? Will the U.S. be tough or soft on Russia when it comes to action against their human rights abuses?

Congress took Trump's ability to remove the sanctions away, like taking a toy from a toddler.

I guess Bernie has another "reason" to vote against the sanctions.

  4. #4
Trump can't do shit about the sanctions though. Congress will just override his veto.

Fucking do it, Vlad. See if we give a fuck. That's just one less access point for you to manipulate.

Oho, child Trump naughty, Papa Putin spank!

Trump has no chance to come out of this. A direct veto will be tantamount to confession, regardless of his explanation. A pocket veto only works if it expires during a recess, which the House and Senate won't do because they're still working on health care. Or, he can sign it, and Russia -- remember, this is the country Trump wanted so much to improve relations with and is the only person who claims they didn't attack the election -- retaliates.

If Trump colluded, he will avoid option three at all costs, because the retaliation will be proof of collusion dropped into the NYTimes inbox.

Bill just now hit Trump's desk. Cue Jeopardy! music.

Scaramucci suggests Trump may veto bipartisan Russian sanctions

"He may sign the sanctions exactly the way they are, or he may veto the sanctions and negotiate an even tougher deal against the Russians," Scaramucci said on CNN's "New Day," calling Trump's strategy on sanctions part of his "counterintuitive, counterpunching personality."

The EU is just as ready to sanction Russia as the US is, but in a coordinated manner, such that Europe isn't deprived from literally the only sufficient source of oil.

So, Dump is in a conundrum - if he doesn't approve of it, it's pretty much further suggestion of collusion. Regardless if it's not admissible as evidence, it will definitely be turning enough heads on principle alone. As they say, "The Cover Up is worse than the Crime".

If Dump does approve it (in order to attempt to save face from the investigation, of course...) than I'm betting Putin may release all the shit the dossier says he has on Dump, including the legendary "Pee-Pee Tape", as now there's no point to having him (Trump) in the office to serve his needs. Though this will also confirm collusion and conspiracy with Russia as well, which might lead to further sanctions/implications - so Putin may not release it out of retaliation? Depends if Putin takes Dumbass Dump's actions personal or not. Maybe Putin won't care anymore and try to spin it to "expose a traitor" in the highest office in America.

It's going to be interesting for sure! ^_^

So basically the way around it is for Trump to veto it and it go into effect anyways?

Trump is attempting to do option #3, pocket veto.

But if they just wait him out, it passes anyway. This is such a big deal for a bill that passed so unanimously that they're not going to let this get a pocket veto. Pocket veto usually only works for small-deal stuff that congress and senate don't really care about.

This bill is a huge "fuck you" to Trump from the entire legislative body, so I don't expect it will work, but at least Trump will show the man he cock-holsters for, Vlad, that he won't let America be put before Russia without a fight!
