    Upgrading Hardware.

    Currently running;

Motherboard: ASUS Z87M-Plus Intel Z87 ATX Haswell LGA1150 Motherboard

    RAM: Mushkin Blackline FrostByte 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600 CL9

    Processor: Intel Haswell Core i5 4670K 3.40GHz 6MB LGA1150

Gears almost 4years old, the motherboard just died so needing to replace.
Seems like it'll be easier to replace all 3 rather than trying to get something to match my hardware.

Would appreciate some advice on replacement hardware that are solid performers in the mid range to keep the prices at a reasonable level to pitch to the wife.

    Thanks.

Edit: The rest of the rig...because probably helpful.

    Cooling: Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler w/NF-P14 + NF-P12
    SSD: Mushkin Chronos 120GB 2.5" SATA3 7mm SSD
PSU: EVGA SuperNova 650 G1 650W 80Plus Gold Full Modular Power Supply
    Video: EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC GAMING, 06G-P4-6163-KR, 6GB GDDR5, ACX 2.0

What a horrible time for the motherboard to die. Coffee lake has been announced and is coming in Oct. That would be the best time to buy a new CPU IMO. In the mean time, if you really want to go new I'd go for this:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

    CPU: AMD - Ryzen 3 1200 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($109.99 @ Amazon)
    Motherboard: ASRock - AB350 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard ($73.98 @ Newegg)
    Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($82.99 @ Newegg)
    Total: $266.96
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

The thing is, all that spent and it is going to perform pretty much the same as your current set-up. The Ryzen CPUs are a bit behind the current intel CPUs, placing them on par with the old Haswells like ours.

Personally, I would check craigs list or other used sources in your area or possibly ebay for a used Z87 or Z97 board. If you can't find something used to hold you over, there is this:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

    Motherboard: ASRock - Fatal1ty Z97 Killer ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($106.98 @ Newegg)
    Total: $106.98

Much less than getting a new CPU and Motherboard and RAM for the same performance you already have.

Thanks for your help, ended up going with.

Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS IX APEX, INTEL Z270, AURA SYNC, DUAL M.2, GAMING MOTHERBOARD
Processor: INTEL KABYLAKE CORE I5-7600K 3.8GHZ, 6MB, LGA1151, UNLOCKED PROCESSOR, NO FANS
    RAM: CORSAIR CMK16GX4M2A2666C16 VENGEANCE LPX 16GB (2X8GB) DDR4-2666 CL16

Also ending up needing to replace the cooler going from a DDR3 Motherboard...
Cooling: NOCTUA NH-U12S CPU COOLER WITH NF-F12 PWM

So at this point essentially a brand new computer since the PSU is a week old and the card about a month or 2.
    Hopefully does the trick.

Prices a bit steep in New Zealand though, so a bit more than the ~$200 in your suggested pieces. -_-

That's basically buying 2 motherboards for no reason.

Your welcome, I guess, even though it is clear you completely ignored the help. Oh well, I hope you are happy with your purchase and things go great for you. You could have achieved similar results spending far far less, but that is your choice.

Yeah, had no idea you were in New Zealand as you never said so. If I had known that, I could have made more specific recommendations. Too late now, you already purchased, so all I can do at this point is wish you the best of luck and say that I still think looking for a used Z97 would have left you with pretty much the same performance you are gonna get with the new stuff you bought. If used was not available, then buying new still would have been less, even if you had to have it shipped in from out of the country. You might see 10% more performance out of the new i5 over your Haswell i5. IMO, that is not worth the cost.
