Indeed - my dress code at my old job was strict, for the men.
Women could, and did wear what ever the fuck they wanted.
Men should know self control when it comes to women. THAT is the problem these days is that schools look to punish girls for what boys do. They pass the blame onto the girls for wearing a tank top or spaghetti straps instead of punishing the boys harassing them or worse
No that's not the issue, See in the 'patriarchy' women were held to different standards, because they had special protections.
In the 'Matriarchy' women demand to be able to do whatever they wan't 'like the boys' (even though that's not true) while still enjoying the same protections of old.
    Well sorry, pick one.

Hint, the 'dress' in dress code, doesn't refer to actual dresses.
They have to go out & buy their dress then get it approved from the school in order to buy their ticket.
Or take a photo of the dress they want to buy before they buy it?

No idea why this is a thing. Here's how it plays out in reality:

Majority of girls follow the rules and send in pictures.

Small group of rebels boycotts dance in protest.

Smart girls who want to wear revealing dresses take a picture of the dress, then get it altered or buy it slightly smaller.

Not so smart girls who want to wear revealing dresses submit actual photo, get denied.

All the revealing dresses get denied at the door anyway.

Kids who want to engage in "inappropriate behavior" will do so, even if you are literally wearing a burlap sack that covers everything but hands/feet/face.

Helicopter parents demand refund for price of dance tickets, refuse to take any personal responsibility for the dress they paid for, start unnecessary drama with school board officials to get their way.

Years later, middle aged school administrator is found to have stored thousands of pictures of girls in revealing dresses on his computer, everyone else acts super surprised.

It's really simple, if you show up and break the dress code then you don't get admitted into the dance.
They want to prevent people getting denied entrance. I don't think that's such a bad thing?

The problem that this gets into, is when the kids engage in full on whatever, and "something happens". It's the school's fault for not doing X, Y , Z to ensure the saftey of the students. Girl wants to wear a thong bikini and then wants full protection against getting groped or someone yanking the tie string. Who wants that kinda burden on them? So the schools have to figure out what's the easiest way to curb some of that behavior.

They should just cancel Prom anyways, seems like it's getting to be too much controversy for whatever minor benefit it brings.

Seems a bit much when all the school would need to do is post the dress code and reserve the right to refuse entry. Asking people to send you a photo and then wait for a reply is a bit of a hassle.

Whatever they want to say about modesty is whatever and should be ignored as a point of any kind. They simply need to decide what they accept in the community and enforce it without commentary on appropriateness.

Probablay not a bad idea.. I mean if they intend to film it, then it's probably neccessary. We have reached the point where a class photo could be considered underage pornography..
