Bleh. I don't like the looks of this. It may be convenient to most players initially, but I feel this'll reduce the importance of guilds. It'll give people the ability to keep in touch without having the solid foundation of an organized guild.

To me, that sounds like it'll decentralize social connections in the game, and reduce the value of guilds. As a guild leader, I dread this. And I'm sure there are other people trying to hold a guild together, that'll come to feel the effects of this.

See it as guild 2.0, since you will be able to invite people from other realms.

Yeah, that sounds nice. But it also means that your friends are more likely to leave your realm, as they can just stay in touch through the chat room, rather than staying in your guild.

I think realms are a thing of the past. Mostly everything is cross realm now. This is just a way of creating "cross realm guilds" with the advantage that you will be able to see and talk with people acoss all blizz games. Realy looking forward to this feature.

Well, this is for more than just WoW.

In before the "appear offline" only works for the actual chat client and all the whiners have another coronary because they're too spineless to tell people to fuck off in the first place.

I am not sure that I understand. If you can have the same interaction with someone whether they're on your realm or not, why would it matter if they were on your realm?

Well, we'll have to disagree on this one. Cross-realm guilds don't work for me. Maybe that's because I lead a roleplay guild. But I'm sure some raiding guilds feel the same. Some things don't work cross-realm. RP addons don't.

For me, this is just adding an extra chat to pay attention to, while making it less appealing for people to stick around in the guilds on my small realm. More people to connect to is not going to be better if there's less connection to those people. In my opinion, this is going to be very detrimental to the remaining value of social connections in WoW.

This is nothing but Discord clone so you don't have to install another app to your system.
I don't see how it would affect guilds or anything at all more than Discord does.

    Cool

Ideally what you would do is use the original bnet lobby and add a bunch of features.

    1. Your actual character avatar displayed in the lobby. You can click on the avatar to see the gear / stats / achieves etc
    2. A section of the lobby would have your leaderboards. You could show top ranked guilds, best clears of 5 mans, best rift times, etc.
    3. Ladders would have a section, such as d3 hardcore ladder, or wow arena ladder rankings
    4. A forum built into the lobby.
    5. Chat built into the lobby (obviously)
    6. Id do something like a world map showing the location of friends or guildies or something. It would periodically update with activitity like you see someones icon move somewhere or complete a quest or rift or level.
    7. More robust chat controls to kill spammers or ads
    8. Id prefer to keep video out but it may be a requirement.

Basically it becomes a massive social hub where people can hang out in. Players can meet and greet and hop into wow, d3, hearthsone, overwatch etc. the playerbase for ALL blizzard games would massively swell. Blizz would be better than facebook. It would be facebook in the middle of a video game arcade. Wow would probably jump back over 10 mil subs.
