Why did my game go into overtime?

Playing competitive on Eldorado we held them a very short distance from the last point (can't remember how far but it was tiny iirc) we took all 3 points the result came up as 3-2 then the game went into overtime and then we both got another run with adjusted time. Is this something to do with how short the distance was that they failed by?

If you won 3-2 and the numbers stood there, you should have won the game.

Never heard of overtime unless same score. Might be a rare bug, or who knows, maybe Blizzard has some extremly stupid system I missed :S
