Help me build a pc for my sister.

Budget is only $400 but she will not need a Hard drive or GPU. Giving her my old 1tb HDD and 380x card I had sitting in my closet. Wants to play Overwatch mostly, but also wants to learn about steam. I dont care about intel or Amd, but I think it would be best for her to get some kinds of quad core yes? Ryzen maybe?

    Budget 400USD
    United States
Not near any store for pickup. Prefer if its Amazon or Newegg only or a mix of both tbh.
    1080p gaming.
    Do not need an OS.
Need everything but KB/Mouse, Monitor, HDD, Gpu.
She would prefer for there to be an upgrade path in the future if possible.

Thats what I have so far. I dont think I am missing anything? She wants a diff case than I have or else I'd get her the 200r like mine.

I personally wouldnt be splurging on the case with a 400$ budget. Ill throw both an Intel Build and a Ryzen build.

The Intel build will be faster out of the box but not overclockable, though it already runs pretty fast. The Ryzen build would be overclockable but probably wont go a lot higher than the i3. Both can be upgraded with better CPUs down he line if needs be.

For Ryzen, the 1300X isnt worth buying, IMO. You can easily OC the 1200 to the same performance on the included cooler.

Better (and cheaper) PSU, plain jane on the case. You can also spend any extra on more RAM or whatever.

    PSU will be fine.

As of Coffee Lake (8000 series chips), Intels desktop lineup looks like:
Celeron - dual core, no HT
Pentium - dual core + HT
i3 - quad core, no HT
i5 - hex core, no HT
    i7 - hex core + HT

Getting ready to order, so anymore input from anyone? If not in next hour or so going with the inter build.

Bought the Ryzen build because Intel was sold out everywhere and said it wanst released yet on BH.

Just remember to OC that R3 1200 to 3.6-3.7

It shouldn't be hard, and should be easily possible on the stock cooler (which is actually quite a solid little cooler unlike Intel's stock junker).

Enjoy and have fun building it, post pics!

As @Kagthul said, that easily overclocks with simply changing the multiplier, if you dont try and go past 3.7, it could even go to 3.8 with some added voltage.

She was a little disappointed after seeing the i3 and 1200 side by side, but didn't want to wait, and I told her the computer would still play pretty much anything. First she needs to upgrade the 380x. Served me well at the time, but its getting kinda old. Thanks for the help guys. I will post pics if I remember.
