Now the Italians go to the polls in Europe's latest referendums on autonomy!

Two of Italy’s richest regions are holding referendums on greater autonomy on Sunday, in the latest push by European regions to wrest more power from the centre.

Lombardy and Veneto, between them home to a quarter of Italy’s population, are seeking semi-autonomy, giving them more control over their finances and administration.

Although legally non-binding, the exercise is the latest ripple in a wave of votes on greater autonomy across Europe in recent years, from Scotland in 2014 to Brexit last year and Catalonia in September.

Although both regions have in the past campaigned for complete independence from Rome, their leaders have made it clear the ballots are about autonomy and not secession.

Bolded part is important here but still interesting to see that even though Brussels is trying to move to a unitied EU super state, many regions are trying to move towards more autonomy.

De-centralization is not against the unity of a polity.
These are regions that do already self-govern many aspects of their local life. Perfecting the enabling mechanisms is very normal.
Brussels is also /not/ trying to move to a united super state. Integration and setting common policy will happen so long as member states want it.

As you said, it's about autonomy, they want a stronger position inside Italy, making it also strong inside the EU.

Even the Catalans independentists want to be part of the EU, their market is dependent of it.

This lack of solidarity with poorer regions is bullshit. Seriously, so what's the next step? Is Milan going to hold a referendum next? What about Paris? Heck, let all cities be autonomous? How about just city centres and the industrial regions? Cut out the domestic districts, they only cost money and barely bring anything to the table. Oh, I know. How about we let individual citizens call for autonomy. I'm sure the top 2% would love that very much.

Seriously, people need to stop being idiots and remember why nations exist.

Do you think we could have Bavaria take a referendum and then go independent, taking the CSU idiots with them?

Since they belong to the giving states in the past few years, I'm sure that should not be a problem at all.
