How do you, personally, accept 1984? Do you see it as a scourge, or as a guide?

Adjustment as in like....how do you adjust to speak German? Well obviously you shout alot, like lets say speaking your normal language is lower case, well German is all caps.

So "ich habe gren augen" is spoken as "ICH HABE GREN AUGEN!!".

Freedom of speech was conceived in a time of small communities, where the dissemination of the speech was prohibitive, and opportunities for travel were non-existing.
Today, when everybody can incite billions of people for free, it can no longer remain "free", and must be controlled for the sake of survival of the mankind.

Are the anti-racism laws in West-Europe a bit too strict? Perhaps. But they apply to everyone. You won't find any blacks being racist to whites here either, like they are allowed to be in the USA.

Not sure if I'd call the Spiegel "edgy" - the issue is just that the vast majority of posters here will only understand the article by using Google Translate, which might change the whole message behind it to some extend. Which makes it kind of pointless.

It's similar to americans feeling they are being overrun by immigrants. Not based on facts, just feels.

That's the reason I don't like the phrase "overrun by immigrants" and others like it. They take something that is true, and allow people like you to play semantic games and declare it to be false. Immigrants? No. Nonwhites? Yes. The latter bit is celebrated and seen as an exciting and the decline of the white majority is seen as a transformative milestone by some on the left.

Orwell wrote extensively about the problems with the authoritarian far left, 1984 was about that, as was Animal Farm. He was one of the patriotic British left wing.
