Sit down Swede. They destroyed your non-factual argument about the cores.

i5 or less is gonna bite you in the ass hard as we move forward in gaming tech.

I'm sure even the WoW engine will get updated to scale nicely with cores at some point.

No, it's not. We've proved that it's not. Every tech reviewer on the planet has proved that the 8350K is NOT the best CPU for gamers. The 8400 or 8600K are current the best $ to performance choices, but the 8700K out performs them all.

That wont happen, and that's not because Blizzard doesnt want to.

At this point you are trolling, well now we know at least. At least try to show proof to back up your claims.

Love how actually know what I'm talking about, being able to back my claims up with proof, and not being broke somehow means I have "more money than brains". All I see here is jealousy masking an unwillingness to be admit being wrong.

Apparently making stupid blanket statements is your modus operandi. You also seem to repeat your non-sense after several people have proven you wrong.

Ignorance can be forgiven, but you are beyond that I'm afraid. Don't demand that people stop the ad hominem when you suggest 'the 8700k is for stupid people' right after.

You're being treated as a fool and you're entirely responsible for that. For your sake, I hope you're merely trolling. Regardless, your reactions so far are utterly pitiful.

If you only WoW and other old games, then then yes, this statement is correct. There are a variety of games out currently that make use of more cores and run better with more cores and that trend is only going to continue. With CPUs lasting MUCH MUCH longer than they used to, it is not quite as cut and dry as you are making it out to be.

It's not even. The culprit is DX11 and it letting 1 core communicate with the GPU at a time(oversimplefied).

So as WoW really ain't high CPU demanding game as todays standards, you will see 1 thread going nuts in places where drawcalls increase to a point, you are bottlenecking at 1 thread level.

Blizzard cannot do anything to resolve it, it would basically need to create a whole new engine for the game with Vulkan support, but for a game this old, it's probably not worth the money, considering how massive of a task it would be. So unless there is a "WoW2" in the future, we will likely never see good performance on high drawcall areas when it comes to WoW.

If you only intend to play games, as in only-only, there is little reason to go for the 8-series.
    Productivity? Go ahead.

In general though, I would not want to be stuck on an older platform if I could avoid it, so if money is truly irrelevant.. 8-series..
My own personal choice would be red team, but my 4770K will have to last me a few more years

No, no, no... you must buy an 8700K even if you only use it to play WoW with your guildies or be infracted by Cilraaz.

I used to be a moderator on the computer forums, and I knew Cilraaz somewhat. He is a better and more fair moderator than I ever were and if anything happened between you and him or you have issues with his moderation, I suggest you either take that up with him or one of the Blue Moderators (super/global mods) via PMs.
The forums is not the place for moderator actions and I advise you from talking about them. Heck, I will advise myself to stop talking about it beyond this point.

    ...
Either way, the i3 that you are arguing for is a fair processor. It works really well. In fact, in WoW specifically, it probably works near-equally well on the same clocks as the i7s of the same generation would (barring the L3 cache differential).
This was not your claim, however. It was that anyone buying an i7 was lacking in the intelligence department and Wow works perfectly well with only a single Core. Something that is woefully untrue. This does not mean that the WoW code is a multi-threaded phenomenon, it certainly is not, but it does gain value past the second core of adding more.
If you instead would have said "If all you do is play Wow specifically, you would be equally well off with an i3 for less money" and this would be true. But you didn't.

The question posed was more of a generational conundrum to me than "do you need an i7 to game", and therefore what I answered.

Hardly. However, your assertion was countered with actual information multiple times, at which point you resorted to insults and opening a separate spam thread to continue the trolling. If you have an issue with your infraction, take it up with a super mod (blue name) or admin (red name).

Beyond this point, discussing moderator actions will be infracted, per forum rules

Best pound for pound CPU for the MMO gamer and esports enthusiasts, probably. Most MMORPGS (likely all) don't utilize many cores and the 8350k is a STEAL for its price and base clock along with being unlocked which is phenomenal. The 6 cores from the 8400-8700k do have plenty of uses in AAA games though, so I'd disagree with you on that point -- simply because benchmarks don't tend to lie in differences between the 8350k, and 8700k. What people also need to take into consideration is the amount of hertz people are playing at. 60 vs 70,80,120, 144, ect is a lot. You will probably get a lot of micro stuttering and won't have a smooth experience on a lot of quality games with only 4 cores -- especially without hyperthreading. And even then, we're not even CONSIDERING non-gaming workloads that greatly benefit from many cores.
You get 1% to 3% performance loss in games with hyper threading activated.

Not enough that I would bother turning it off but it's still a performance loss.

And I learned years ago that synthetic benchmarks have no relevance on what I use my computer for (gaming, YouTube, Netflix) so I don't care about those.

You're pretty creative, I'll give you that. Not everyone is able to spew out this much random garbage in 1-2 threads.

If anything, you're going off outdated information. Time to start checking the latest benchmarks and update your view of the computer world and its inner workings.

8700K will likely be relevant for much longer. That said there is nothing stated (afaik) that WoW will take advantage of more cores in the future. Even if they did a "DX12-overhaul" a 4 core would take a lot of advantage from that as well. Right now it's hard to measure any difference beyond 2 cores.

This entirely depends on the game. For WoW probably yes. Many newer titles no.
