The essential theory is really vile and relies on some bizarre ideas of race that I'm really not comfortable typing about so I'm going to have to be vague. He believed a race war was already going to happen and that he just needed to kick it off. He felt that the free love movement put black males at a reproductive disadvantage that would make them violent. He felt that, by executing multiple high profile murders on white people, he would be able to induce a copycat effect that would encourage black people to do the same.

It's pretty nuts, wouldn't have worked, and you'll note there still hasn't been a race war despite many attempts at instigating one. Manson claimed this was a fiction generated by the prosecution, I suppose it could have been.

He figured that blacks would get blamed for the murders of a bunch of wealthy, white people. He believed this would cause white people to attack blacks in revenge, while at the same time motivating blacks to rise up against whites. He and his "family" would stay safe by hiding underground during the race war. He thought blacks would eventually win the race war, but that they wouldn't be intelligent enough to run the world afterwards, at which point he would take over and become the leader of the world.

He was one crazy fuck.
