27" Monitor advice : 144Mhz vs 4K

I went for a 144Hz and dont regret it at all. If you play shooters, 144Hz is a biiiig difference. Went from silver to GM in Overwatch after I got a new monitor (Though probably not only because of the monitor.. )

There isn't really any need for 4k unless you are extremely uptight about graphic settings. In my experience, most people who play online games are more concerned of smoothness of gameplay than quality of the graphics.

1440p 144hz all the way, 4k isn't a competition in any aspect.

1080p 144hz still wins vs 4k 60hz.

Just to be clear, the closer you are to a screen, the easier it is to tell the difference between lower and higher resolution. This is exactly why VR screens are terrible atm.

Do not buy 4k. You can't even notice the difference and you will kill your fps. You have zero noticable advantage with 4k it is marketting only that works on ignorants.
Also with a GT1070, you can run games with ultra high graphic and will probably be able to do so with upcoming games in 2025.
If you go with a 4k, you will have to replace your graphic card for details your eyes cant even differentiate.
I suggest you go to bestbuy and compare the screens by yourself. MAKE SURE YOU OPEN THE SAME FULL HD PICTURE FROM GOOGLE. Because if you compare 2 different pictures, I can assure you they will use a picture with lower resolution on the 1920x1080 to make you believe the 4k is better.

to resume, if you have low IQ, go with 4k. If you have average and higher IQ, go with the 1920x1080

Actually, whether or not you can tell the difference between 1080 and 4k depends on a number of factors, namely your eyesight and distance from the screen. A full HD picture will look exactly the same on a 1080 screen as it does on a 4k screen, because it is the same resolution. The type of content is also relevant on how much of a difference you see between the two. But to say that there is no noticeable difference between the two is just factually incorrect.

I have the same computer setup as yours and went with the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q (144hz 1440p). It isnt that much harder on my system than a 1080p monitor, and it looks soooo much better. Also the 144hz is absolutely amazing. It really does spoil you, I despise playing on anything that isnt 144hz now lol

1440p 144hz beats 4k 60hz anytime. I bought the ASUS ROG PG278Q and I loooooove it. 144hz spoils you though. I hate playing on anything 60hz anymore because of it lol


(I dont think a 1070 does well with 4k anyways, so thats also a thing. But even if it did, Ide still go with 144hz anyday. 1440p looks reallllly good also! )

ORRR you can just clench your teeth and stay with your current monitor for another couple of months and save up some extra $$ for 1440p/144+/sync.

Monitor is something you will use for many years and "upgrading" from 1080p to 1080p does not make sense IMO at late 2017.

You should get something that won't make you feel bad in two years from now and 1440p /144/sync is ideal there.
