    Hopelessly confused.

So many UI's use really good looking "borders" but I cannot figure out how to do it.

I thought it was done via eepanels, but either I cannot figure it out, or am using the wrong thing.

What mod am I supposed to use to make the borders for chat, map, damage, basically everything look great? Is there something I need to go with eePanels?

Here are some examples of these borders.

What do I do to make borders similar to them?

How do I take those textures/borders and use them?

Is there any type of guide to doing this?

    2 EEpanels stacked

1 is smaller than the other to create the border. just use parenting and height/width changes to create the borders.

Okay, so how do you make panels transparent like in the second screenshot? When I lower the opacity, the panel simply becomes white.

    Actually, you're wrong.

Eepanels2, using the RothSquare or HalBorder textures give this effect, width can be changed to be nice and fat or skinny.

To do this, you should download one of those UI packages with the textures you like. Get Eepanels2. In the UI package you want the SharedMedia files under Interface -> Addons. Make sure the MyMedia file is in there and has the appropriate textures within. If you feel really adventurous, you can add in more files and append them in the MyMedia.lua file, but I wouldn't do this if you aren't 100% sure of what you're doing. :P Anywho! Plop both SharedMedia & Eepanels2 in your Addons folder. Boot WoW up. You can follow the instructions on how to create a panel and anchor/parent it - http://www.wowace.com/wiki/EePanels2 & http://www.wowace.com/wiki/EePanels_Scripts. /eepanels2 waterfall <- easiest command to edit them with, btw. Doing it via text in your chat log is very hard. Now, to get those tasty tasty borders you want, you simply select that texture from the drop down list under the panels settings, (expand it to show 'Border Texture'). And don't be shy with it! Play around with the border edge size (smaller = thinner), inset sizes, etc. Remember, if you want panels with different borders, don't edit the Global Settings, edit the individual panel's settings. You can copy them if needed.

If you want more complex panels (fading, varying opacity), then yes you do need to create several panels per area and parent them onto each other to create this effect. But for a simple border, you can usually use a texture.
