1. Why the hell would blizzard announce a game thats already announced.
2. The eyes and brow dont match. (Maybe the eye outline but not the glow, like someone said it makes him look like a girl if it is arthas)
3. There are to many clues pointing to D3 or SC MMO

the reason im barking at the arthas people is because for 3-5 pages straight its, "LOL DIS LOOKZ LIEK ARDAS" when clearly it doesnt. its like saying some piece of bread looks like jesus or some guy looks like another guy when they have no similar features at all. its just annoying.. er.. w/e. Zzzz

People are trying to link the Splash to Arthas. The WotLK page and the Video have different helms - but oh no there couldn't possibly be three different people with the ability to draw Arthas! That would be pushing the boat out, if you know what I mean!  What substantial evidence do you have for that being Tyrael, or any sort of Diablo reference? Other than the "OMG WE NEVAR SOR HIZ FAYC IT MUST B HEEM!" - no? Didn't think so.

Edit: Anybody notice that the little white shape on Splash 4, down about an inch from between the eyes that some assumed was a hint of a mouth is gone?

1. Who says that this Spash screen has anything to do with a new game? Like most here think, its probably a few announcements.
2. I agree they don't match, but different artist, different look. I've seen 3 or 4 different helmets of arthas. All slighty different. So maybe its not, but maybe... it is. I'm still not convinced.
3. There are a lot of clues. But only one proof: Hydra. Confirmed by one of Blizzards main Concept artist: Peter Lee. The rest is just Blizzard screwin with us.

Arthas helmet has a flat line at the bottom of the narrow part, the helmet on the picture is a complete sharp acute angle with no flat middle. So it cant be arthas.. also, arthas' helmet is shaped differently. You stfu. and if you read you could see i did prove things earlier in the post, so instead of reading the last page and posting, stfu and read the entire post.

the flat line at the bottom of the narrow part cannot possibly be shown at the splash pic cause the light sources are the EYES. i said it be4,its 'shading'. the reflection of the light should form out a "v",that means nothing. if you also zoom in,you ll notice its not a v with a clear angle at its "southest" part,it gets flat. come on dude,this isn't wotlk vs diablo, you cant deny the obvious part... as i said again 20 pages be4 or so,i believe there will bo some d3 announcement at wwi (mostly convinced by the fact that this weekend is d2 anniversary) but the splash screens have clearly nothing to do with it. :P pls reply

Touché. I'd like to draw your attention to Diablo, Baal, Mephisto, whomever ya wanna talk about. Last I checked, all three were big, fiery red demons with horns and scales. What I see is a metallic head-covering with white glowing eyes and a nasal bar (That, to be fair, doesn't cover the nose) - check it out; you can see divisions either side of it between it and the sides of the helm-like object. Not quite sure how that could be worked into a head of any sort. By head, I mean one without a covering. I'm not saying it's Arthas/WoW Related, much as I'd like it to be - I'm equally happy with a Starcraft announcement - but it's so much harder to link that to a potential D3, other than finding links because you want them to be there. =/

Edit: In light of the FFtard's (Joke, I love FF as much as the next guy =D) latest commitment to this palaver, yes, as I have said, I could quite happily see it being a Protoss helm. I'd be willing to bet on it, were I the betting kind. But the closest you could link it to Tyrael, is that we've never seen his eyes, so they could be glowing. Yet glowing eyes would shine out of a shroud, you'd think... Similarly, anyone who wears a head-hugging shroud doesn't suddenly start wearing a helmet. Tell me I have no evidence for this, and I'm basing it solely on the D2 clips, and you become an official hypocrite in this debate.

i said it COULD be -Corrupted- tyrael, rumors say that tyrael destroyed the worldstone in the end of Diablo 2 for his own benefit, making him some sort of higher-god? again, a rumor, im simply bringing it up. as it COULD be tyrael in his corrupted god-like form wearing some sort of helm? or possible strange-demonic angel face of some sort.. erm.. but im still leaning towards protoss. the tyrael thing is merely a suggestion not a statement.

Were I say to "It could be Arthas" you'd come back with "IT'S NOT ARTHAS FFS", as you have done all ready. =P I'm not saying it can't be Tyrael - tbh, I don't really give one - but corrupted or not he wouldn't start looking that radically different. Corrupted Arthas (Prior to being Lich King) was Arthas, yet haggard, old, white haired and generally evil-looking. He didn't suddenly lose a head, grow bony ridges, and obtain glowing eyes. Say what you want, I'm assemblind what we know so far and making a logical conclusion thereof. Dispute it, discount it, hell be disgusted at it. But don't tell us it's not what we think, yet still adamantly refuse to believe it couldn't be what you think.

Arthas had normal looking flesh as a paladin and light blonde hair...

when he accepted the frostmourn he drastically changed and turned pale/white hair with a sinister look.. eh even changed his armor to skulls and such.

Am talking facially here. I believe I said;

I'm just saying what I said to discount those saying a) it's not a helm it's a bony ridge, yet also saying b) it could be corrupted Tyrael. I don't really care if I'm wrong, I relish the thought, but until it's announced in absolute exclusion of anything WoW or SC related I won't back down. =P



To me, the red lines highlight ridges in the features; straight lines, implying a helm of sorts, as I can't believe eye cavities would be so long, angular, and sharply defined.

Ok so there is a lot of arguing going on here about the splash screen and i would just like to make a definitive list of things that have shown up so far.

1) The runes.

4 of them seem to represent one of Blizzard's gaming Universes. Diablo (Hel rune) Warcraft (rune off of Frostmourne) Starcraft (Protoss Symbol) Lost Vikings (Viking Compass)

The last rune is unknown still but speculation may point to the fact that it is a representation of the Blizzard "system" of games and universes with 3 distinct worlds. Blizzard may be represented by the middle Orb, Starcraft by the Sphere on the second orbit and Warcraft and Diablo on the second Orbit because of the similarity of the "era" in which they take place (medieval sorta).

It also shouldn't be missed that the fact that the runes are arranged in a pentacle pattern on the screen itself which can either represent a star or a pentogram.

2)Blizzard Statements

"So you want me to announce the game before our announcement?" he told GamesIndustry. "No offense, but I think there's like 300 people here, and I'll be ripped apart by 8000 people [at the Invitational] if I pre-announce it—but it's going to be really exciting. I think everybody here will be really excited about the announcement."

One thing that throws me off of the Lich King theory, why would blizzard state they are announcing a new product that was already announced at an earlier date? Of course people speculate that it is gonna be the release date but...

3) Evil Penguin creature....

The Picture itself is quite amusing, however I still cant pinpoint the signature of the artist that has done it. One big thing about it is not the picture itself but the labeling of the pictures.

Each numbered as followed: 4 8 15 16 23 42

These numbers belong to something known as the Valenzetti Equation used in the show Lost. The equation itself is supposed to signify the amount of time until the end of the world.

The numbers also make it seem that the splash screen is a Diablo reference. But, people can interperet the scourge invasion on Lordaeron as an apocalypse, a definitive and major change in the world as it once was known. The same as with the Zerg invasion of different planet Aiur. Either of these events can be considered as relating to the Valenzetti Equation.

4) Photoshop fun

Te following links go to the splash screen with diffferent effects added to it that show and highlight different features of the picture.

This effect is known as difference clouding. As you can see around the eyes you should notice slight edges that may resemble facial features and definitively drawn accent lines in what may be a feature to the left side of the "face" which people have presumed to be a horn.

This is called a Solar effect, again showing slight "facial features" and showing that part of what people percieved ad a horn and a skull are part of the same effect that created the "smoke", "steam", "fog" effect that comes out of the eyes.

This effect rendered the screen into a colored pencil type of picture, again this highligted different parts of the picture, again to the left of the "face" you can see a small portion that looks like the outline of a small protrusion from the head area. Yet it shows something new. The "forehead". It shows a drawing effect that shows slight features from the forehead that may actually be there but not visible because of "fillling in" with color but the edges and layers remain hidden. I came to this conclusion whe the same thing showed up in other renditions...

Ok, this is another rendering with an effect known as neon. It outlines the "face" quite well showing a definitive forehead and what looks like "cheek" facial features. Two speculations on what i may think it may be is the face of a Skeleton with the way the upper portion of the face is shaped. It also resembles the face of a Zealot or an Archon if you compare the two.

This effect is known as fresco, again showing the same features of the face and clearly showing the denser areas of color. You can clearly see the forehead here and the lines of the lower parts of the face and slightly denser spots of color to the left which again may resemble a cranial protrusion or horn or something.

I saved the chromed image for last for a reason. This picture mainly highlights lines that are present in a picture. This one clearly shows the presence of a forehead overhang and a protusion in the middle of it and also the lines in to the left of the face which people have interpereted as a horn. You can also see the "cheek" areas, what appears to be a nose and what appears to be another form on the bottom left right hand side of the opening in the ice.

Again these renditions are a good representation of what blizzard has been hiding in the splash screens.

I HAVE NO STANCE OR HOPES ON WHAT THIS GAME MAY BE

Please emphasize this point as what I have posted is unbiased because I don't care what it is they are announcing im going to be excited about it either way.

I just posted this to use as a reference on future speculations.
