Re: [Brain Storm] Fun Talent ideas late in Prot or Ret.

i don't really want anything in prot aside from a Spell Absorb or Spell Reflect ability. why Add things to prot when it's already bloated.

as for a talent in Ret... I've always wanted something like:

Come Into the Light (coolest thing i could think of off top of my head lol)
    8-35yd Range
    1.5sec cast
    1min Cooldown
Pulls the Target to the caster who is filled with light and Blinds the target, causing it to wander disoriented for up to 3 sec. Any damage caused will remove the effect.

it's like those Engineers in Nagrand that pull you in with a hook. no a charge but similar end result.

How about an offensive aura for the retribution tree that stacks a debuff that increases Holy damage taken that does no damage, as to not break CC. This would be beneficial to the AOE type attack that ret paladins get.

As far as protection, I don't play protection enough to know what would possibly be a good talent so I'll pass on this one. Possibly something that a paladin can give to another tanks besides a blessing to help in an emergency.

As with seals we already have plenty of Auras. We already have enough tools in that toolbox sort to speak.

Ok.. How about a talent called "Go into the Light" When it's used, it blinds your enemy, turning their screen pure white for 8 seconds. You can still move, attack and use all abilities.... you just.. can't see...

Make it a 2-2.5 second cast. Either that or have it effect anyone in a certain range and make it a channeled cast.

Edit: My bad, just read post above mine.. Very similar. We think alike. The blinding effect would be fun though.

Slapping this into deep Retribution would give the Retribution Paladin a much needed movement reduction talent without introducing yet another seal.
Why not simply modify an ability you already have (Shameless plug):

    Wake of Divinity:
    (Tier 8, Retribution, 2 points)
Enemies damaged by your Consecration spell have their movement speed reduced by 40% for 3/5 seconds. In addition, the mana cost of Consecration is reduced by 10/20%.

In this way, your Consecration acts as a short duration but weaker version of a Hunter's frost trap (which slows movement by 60%, by the way) that slows anything that is in its area of effect for as long as they're in it (but not any time after moving out of it, as they're no longer being damaged). Think of it as an AOE snare... and then think of using it to escort flag carriers in Warsong Gulch. That always makes me smile ;D.

It would add a secondary effect to Crusader Strike and it would please the Retribution Paladins who say that Ret. needs a way to combat Healers and spellcasters.
If you check out the link above (Shameless self-promotion again!), that's pretty much exactly the change I suggested for Repentance (this was before they made it a 1-minute CC, though I don't think Paladins really NEED a crowd-control ability). I copied it directly from the enemy ability "Spellbreaker", which I mentioned in another thread and was probably the seed from which your idea came from.

    Also, I will have to mention my favorite Prot / Ret talent suggestions;

    Zealotry
    (Tier 11, Retribution, 1 point)
    10% Base Mana
    Instant 5 Minute Cooldown

Generates 6 charges of Zealotry. A charge is consumed by using Judgment, Exorcism, Turn Evil, or Holy Wrath.

When Zealotry is active, Judgment causes holy damage equal to 50% of weapon damage and Exorcism, Turn Evil, and Holy Wrath can be used on any target. Lasts 20 seconds or until all charges are spent.

    Salvation
    (Tier 8, Protection, 2 points)
Upon death, you remain present in the form of a guardian spirit, retaining the attention of any enemies targeting you for the next 5/10 seconds.

While in spirit form, you are able to cast Divine Intervention, Righteous Defender, Hand of Protection and Lay on Hands as though you were alive. The cooldown of these abilities are reset to 0 upon entering spirit form.

why would I want to spec to Tank to buff another Tank?

the whole point is that I would want to be tanking lol.

So you don't feel useless as a protection paladin when your not tanking a boss.

    Retri:
Improved Crusader Strike - Your Crusader Strike makes next Judgement of Justice interrupting spellcasting and preventing any spell in that school from being cast for X sec.

    Prot:
    Reckoning bomb sounds cool

Re: [Brain Storm] Fun Talent ideas late in Prot or Ret.

    Retribution
    Aura:Corrupted Light

Engulfs the Paladin in Corrupted Light, allowing it to replicate the current Main Hand weapon as an additional Offhand weapon to deal damage with. Holy damage done and damage taken from all sources increased by 10%. May not cast spells or abillities typical to Holy or Protection.
    Much like the Shadow Priests.
Typical spells would be much like: Flash of Light, Lay on Hands, Holy Light, Righteous Fury, Taunt, Divine Intervention etc.

    Protection:
    Shout of the Crusader
Instant cast, 30 sec cool down.
Instantly judges all target's within 15yds to take up to 219 additional Holy Damage. The effect lasts for 15 sec. before it wears off.
    Speaks for itself I guess.

    edit:
The talent Judgement of the Just should also apply to Shout of the Crusader, to make the talent remotely usefull.

Re: [Brain Storm] Fun Talent ideas late in Prot or Ret.

A fun talent, hmhm... maybe something like this?

    (deep in ret)

    "Holy Cage"
20% of base Mana, 3 Min cooldown, 30 yards range.

"You imprison your foe with a divine Cage, making him unable to do any actions to the outside.
He may still move, heal/buff/dispell himself, but only himself, for the time Holy Cage is active.
Holy Cage may not be dispelled(except when using insignia). Lasts 10 seconds."

Meaning you can't attack, you can't heal/buff another person, but still you can heal yourself.
I think this would be very funny, but it could be too strong =)

I'm sorry for my "not-so-good" English.

No. We need a pve element to CS. Would rather have something like 'Chance that CS will be dealt as holy damage'. Would also like to see an improved CS that increases the holy damage by x%. Atm if you are pve only then you struggle to spend your points in talents that are useful to you. If you want an interupt/snare i think that pursuit of justice will be altered but it will have a long cooldown and you will lose either some speed or the chance not to be hit element.

Statistically speaking, you are an average player. Learn to live with it.

the whole point is that I want to be viable enough so I'm the one tanking the boss and not always pushed aside by a warrior on single target boss fights. and if it does come down to that I want to DPS and not heal like we were forced to before (which is why i'd love for the 51pt talent to work with 2handers.)

Re: [Brain Storm] Fun Talent ideas late in Prot or Ret.

    Protection:
    Light Touched
Has a 33/66/100% chance to judge 2 additional nearby enemy's when you judge.
    Protection:
    Reckoning
Gives you a **% chance after being hit by any damaging attack that the next 4 weapon swings within 8 sec will generate an additional attack. When the effect is active, the target will be shielded for xx amount of damage by all sources.
To make reckoning a bit more usefull?

I fail to see how being able to interrupt a caster is exclusively a PVP element. There are a lot of fights (Dalliah in Arcatraz springs instantly to mind) where you need to stop an enemy from casting, but being bosses they are immune to stuns like Hammer of Justice.

Being able to interrupt a caster is a fantastic ability given that Paladins have very few tools for stopping them, both in PVE and PVP. I will agree that Crusader Strike is not the best place to put it, given that it's a spammed damaging ability. Most interrupts have a longer cooldown than 6 seconds, or at least cause very little damage (Kick, Pummel, etc).

An interrupt would be great, just not on an ability that we've fought forever to be able to spam. :P

I really like this idea!!! After all, we are warrior priests. Some of our spells resembling a priests, at least in concept, would def bring the class....back to the light(so to speak).
    WTB Spell/Grammer check?

not bad idea, however, having all those abilities reseted... maybe if u wont use those abilities, their CDs wont reset, so u cannot reset then "on command", in that case upon death

    Divine Forgiveness

Every other player gains the ability to identify a Retribution Paladin as a viable offensive player, forgiving them for shitty DPS on Lucifron. 'Loladin' is erased from their vocabulary.

Just to introduce this point that I feel a lot of these are great ideas, especially 'Chains of Faith', especially as a Blizzard poster has just stated that they are looking to introduce new higher end Ret and Prot talents.

My only preoccupation is the seemingly unwashable stain or paladins as terrible DPSers, and that no matter how many good talents are introduced we won't be able to shake it.

I may have missed this, but has anyone thought of any more useful PvE talents for deep retribution?

    xx

The majority of bosses are also immune to interrupt or have instant cast spells. I grant you that some are, but seeing how our dps is very low atm i would rather have that fixed than get an ability that is rarely used in boss fights.

    Thank you!

The biggest reason for this ability is that when things go wrong, you still have access to your protective abilities for a short duration. As paladins, we have the ability to emergency heal (Lay on Hands), Emergency Bubble (Hand of Protection) and even sacrifice ourselves to prevent a wipe (Divine Intervention).

The problem is, as Tankadins, we are often the first to die, and then watch helplessly as the enemies steamroll our friends. Our protective abilities become worthless upon death. Salvation changes that, and gives you a very narrow window (I would even suggest reducing the duration down from 10 seconds, maybe 4/8 is better?) to perform a few last acts of protection. Namely Divine Intervention, but being able to throw a last emergency heal to your off-tank or bubble your healer before the mobs trounce him are nice uses too.

I would probably revise the ability to also allow Hand of Freedom and Hand of Salvation to be used while in guardian spirit form, just because you could then lower a little aggro or free up a snared friend before everything goes awry.

The uses in PVP are pretty dramatic, however, so I don't see it happening, although it certainly would make Protection Paladins much more desirable for Arenas: even in death they can still defend their friends.

That is one balance issue, I would probably change the wording so that those abilities work on their own exclusive cooldown when you're in guardian spirit form. That is, all of the cooldowns on those abilities are reset, but return to normal when you're resurrected. My biggest concern is that there'd need to be a way to prevent Lay on Hands -> Death -> Guardian Spirit -> Lay on Hands within a very narrow time period.

On the other hand, that makes for some interesting strategies; if you know you are going to die (most certainly this would be a PVP occurence), you Lay on Hands, die, and use it again. Overpowered? Probably. Awesome? Definitely.

The order of the day is sacrifice for the greater good.
