what I wonder about the movie is, is this an event or can u do it on all characters? will it be like the gates of ahn qiraj, happening once and then never again?

Since the questline after the movie makes heavy use of Phasing, and the final quest rewards are blues, I guess it's safe to assume you will be able to do that quest even a year after launch.
