This was posted in the Warrior forum but I was kinda hoping to get a pally view on this. I am heading into this zone now and would like to get some info on what weapon would be best for a pally tank.
Thanks.

They're all good choices.
You desperately need defense: get the axe.
You're almost at defense cap: get the mace.
You've already hit defense cap: get the sword.
The hammer or sword are the best of the two choices. the speed on them makes stacking SoV a lot faster.
And the hammer edges out the sword slightly due to Dodge > Parry for a pally.
Now when you get to 77-78 Run HoL for http://www.wowhead.com/?item=36984 which should tide you over till you can run Heroics for http://www.wowhead.com/?item=37401 or Naxx-10 for http://www.wowhead.com/?item=39344
Well the staff is right out.
The axe is too slow.
The sword and mace are both good options. Go for whichever stat you feel are personally lacking.
Sounds good, I was looking at the speed mostly, wasn't sure if it was viable to have a speedy weapon or not.Originally Posted by Offhand
Those are nice weapons, you know though I don't find myself judging anything but wisdom while solo, in the dungeons I use the vengence more often, I don't even conc any more solo though...Originally Posted by wyrdone
Anything under 2.0 speed is generally considered acceptable. It stacks SoV at a good rate and, if you're soloing, will use up all your reckoning charges.
It's largely not worth it right now, unless you're doing some AoE soloing.Originally Posted by Damiun
I'm of the opinion that Vengeance/Corruption stacks fast enough no matter what weapon you're using (especially with HoTR). And after you have 5 stacks up, the speed of the weapon doesn't matter. So go for stats.
If you can't hold aggro between the time you use Avenger's Shield to pull and the time you get up 5 stacks of Vengeance/Corruption, you forgot to refresh Righteous Fury.
You really use Seal of Blood to tank? ???
Yeah you can do that now, in non heroics where you completely overgear the content. No, you can't in anything that counts.Originally Posted by Myur
I was thinking of trying out the Axe since it has the highest top end damage. Figured that might make for an even harder hitting HotR. not 100% if that will help counter the speed.
No no no, HotR is based off weapon dps and NOT top end weapon damage. This allows paladins to pick up fast weapons with a high dps for lots of seal procs.Originally Posted by drache
Nothing a prot paladin does is based off top end weapon damage.
but seals proc mean nothing since once all 5 stacks of vengeance/corruption are up there's no point in having a fast weapon anymore.
if 2 weapons have the same DPS it's best to choose the one that has the better stats/avoidance and not base it on speed.
This was taken from the other thread on the exact same subject.
I would like to add that HotR was changed to dps instead of damage specifically so we could continue using fast weaponsOriginally Posted by Offhand
