Tanking weapon?

This was posted in the Warrior forum but I was kinda hoping to get a pally view on this. I am heading into this zone now and would like to get some info on what weapon would be best for a pally tank.

They're all good choices.

You desperately need defense: get the axe.
You're almost at defense cap: get the mace.
You've already hit defense cap: get the sword.

The hammer or sword are the best of the two choices. the speed on them makes stacking SoV a lot faster.

And the hammer edges out the sword slightly due to Dodge > Parry for a pally.

Sounds good, I was looking at the speed mostly, wasn't sure if it was viable to have a speedy weapon or not.

Those are nice weapons, you know though I don't find myself judging anything but wisdom while solo, in the dungeons I use the vengence more often, I don't even conc any more solo though...

It's largely not worth it right now, unless you're doing some AoE soloing.

I try to as often as I can, but it really ticks ppl off so if there are lots trying to do the same quest I just pick up one at a time.

I'm of the opinion that Vengeance/Corruption stacks fast enough no matter what weapon you're using (especially with HoTR). And after you have 5 stacks up, the speed of the weapon doesn't matter. So go for stats.

If you can't hold aggro between the time you use Avenger's Shield to pull and the time you get up 5 stacks of Vengeance/Corruption, you forgot to refresh Righteous Fury.

Yeah you can do that now, in non heroics where you completely overgear the content. No, you can't in anything that counts.

Decided to go with the Mace, figured wth, speed and Def. Don't think it really matters much any how, already 77 so I prob won't have it long.

No no no, HotR is based off weapon dps and NOT top end weapon damage. This allows paladins to pick up fast weapons with a high dps for lots of seal procs.

Nothing a prot paladin does is based off top end weapon damage.

but seals proc mean nothing since once all 5 stacks of vengeance/corruption are up there's no point in having a fast weapon anymore.

if 2 weapons have the same DPS it's best to choose the one that has the better stats/avoidance and not base it on speed.

The point is that a higher top-end weapon offers nothing, even in silly situations when you're using the wrong seal. SoR scales better with extremely fast weapons and if you use SoB you're wrong. It's arguable that seal of light and wisdom will be applicable in some fights and in that situation, a faster weapon will be better.

Could a slow weapon get the job done? Probably. Would a min/maxer go for a slow weapon in most situations? No.

I would like to add that HotR was changed to dps instead of damage specifically so we could continue using fast weapons
