    Flash Heal over Renew

I've discussed this quite a bit on the official forum, and from ingame experience I am very pleased with my results of using flash heal instead of renew.

May I first say, this takes into account the following:

You are using the Flash Heal glyph, for -10% mana cost.
You have geared yourself for a reasonable amount of spell crit (including 5/5 holy specialisation)
You have the following talents: Serendipity, Holy Concentration, Surge of Light, Inspiration, Holy Specialisation, Test of Faith.

With this I am finding flash heal to be a good mana efficient heal, which makes good use of the spell crit stat, giving you free greater heals, flash heals and a good mana return from serendipity (25% if you cast appropriately)

Renew might have its place still, but after spending a huge amount of talents on focusing around spell crit, using renew to heal seems silly when flash can proc so many good benefits.

This is my current build: http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-ta...herhood&n=Nina
Note the 5 remaining talents, 1 is going into spiritual healing for 5/5 and the rest 4/5 divine providence

    Re: Flash Heal over Renew

    uhm, just use both?

If renew is enough to keep up people you just use that - especially since if its enough you won't have ANY mana problems at all. So in all there shouldn't be a question wether to use renew or flash heal. Doesn't matter if you feel its "silly" or not if its not needed to use more than a renew. Noted that renew isn't meant as a main heal, but a filler heal due to it only proccing every few secs.

The question you should be asking was wether to use flash heal over greater heal where you fully can look at how much you heal with each and what costs they have (with or without glyphs).

The word you want to use is "have" not "of".
You may have alot of stuff in your country, but we got Lolland.

    Re: Flash Heal over Renew

I do use both but, if someone is 3000 health from maximum health, I've found it to be much better to use flash heal, proc serendipity and have a chance for surge of light/holy concentration then to use renew and forget about them while they slowly heal up. In the past I have just used renew on such people but now im finding flash to be much more effective.

When it comes to tank healing I use greater heals, since they take more damage and its more mana efficient.

    Re: Flash Heal over Renew

maybe I'm doing it wrong healing as the priest as I mainly healed as a druid in TBC. but I pop a renew on the tank to keep him topped and pretty much use greaters if the damage is more than my renew holding off until he's about 6k off max hp to avoid massive overheal.

I rarely use flash heal on the tank usually just reserving it for topping the group off. then keep my binding to top myself or poh if there's aoe.

    comments/suggestions welcome.

I've been healing as shadow without any trouble just swapping around some of my sunwell gear for my damage T6 for the increase mp5/spirit and using the bloodboil staff over the illy one. I sharded all my healing T6 gear a few weeks before the expansion so my helm and gloves are the only T6 bits I don't use that have better regen.

I was reading this post over on Elitist jerks yesterday and it does make a lot of sense.

    http://elitistjerks.com/f77/t35208-w...v3_0_progress/

The poster there is also going along the lines that with suitable crit that flash heal is as efficient as renew to the point that the improved renew tallent COULD be left out if you wanted to take some other tallents in the tree instead. i was thinknig i will give it a try and see how i go, but need to get a bit more crit first.

You're missing one thing, however: When it seems the game is now focused around crits, you get free heals. This is true. On the other side of the coin, spreading out those procs by having a Shield, or a Renew already up when your free spell proc comes into play, this is a couple seconds longer you can wait on the 5-Second-Rule to get real mana regen coming back to you. Improved Renew + the glyph for Improved Renew is very very nice for this, regardless of the fact it can't crit.

    Re: Flash Heal over Renew

Problem with using renew is, unless some idiot just needs to be topped off, assuming you're healing the grp because the grp is taking grp dmg, there is no chance of divine aegis procing. So, I always lead with pom on somebody followed by a renew, and FH+renew on other ppl, you can usually start the renew before the flash is finished and it will take, making it a quick process. And keep pom going.

If you use something like grid and I've started using macros that let me heal just by mousing over your target, saves the time of clicking the mouse, or you can heal the target you last clicked on by moving the mouse off the target or grid, its not hard to out heal priests spamming coh priests and probably more mana efficent depending on range.

I generally save penance for the tank, but if bubble and pom are on CD and you feel the person may die before a flash heal gets off I've started using penance in situations like that, which there seems to be more grp dmg in the new instances.

    (*Edit, holy typos..)

    Re: Flash Heal over Renew

For glyphs im using the glyph that heals iwth the bubble and the glyph that heals with a cleanse(rly nice with the reduced CD of mass dispell), I rly like spells that can do multiple things and if it crits it will proc divine aegis.

I use FH more now than I did in BC, but even with mostly crappy BC badge gear I have 700-800 regen so I was not concerned with the glyph that reduce mana cost by 10%.

I primarly use to use GH and never used FH, and now I don't even have GH out. I always keep renew on the tank and use pom, or a flash heal and even bubble(never use to bubble the tank) sometimes because of the healing glyph, reflective shield, 15% buff and the healing bonus gained from weakened soul(I think thats it). So even if the bubble gets wiped right away, the next heals will be larger.

    Re: Flash Heal over Renew

I've also read the elitist post, and damm that's a good one :P

However my personal preferance is giving people a renew, which is not related to mana concerns it's moreover about personal convenience - If I give someone who is at 70% hp a renew, top him off with that, and he is hit again within 12 seconds, I do not have to place a new heal on him, this is what I really like a lot

call me lazy, but that's my personal healing style usually

    Re: Flash Heal over Renew

pom is the ultimate lazymans healing spell, can heal multiple ppl without having to do anything.

That is a decent read, but that thread has been around for a long time and is still mostly outdated, some of it is still good general info and prolly the best bit of info is on the new mechanics of regen.

priests are situational, just use the right spell when u have to... win

    Re: Flash Heal over Renew

You probably shouldn't ignore the only HoT you have just because 1 spell happens to be more mana efficient. The glory of Renew is that you can set it and forget it, allowing you to focus more cast time on people who need bigger heals and it can also sponge up extra/unexpected damage that the target takes after you apply the HoT wheras all the healing from flash heal comes up front.

    Re: Flash Heal over Renew

Well right now i use Renew it seems to heal for 1k every proc and im only lvl 74 with 1090 SP with spell and oils. Flash heal i use if the tank is taking alot of damage fast. ill try and get renew off and use pen when it crits its 2200+ 3 times.

But im still new to the healing thing, been a rogue for last 2 years but with WOTLK and doing beta i really started to work on priest.

Thats right mate. you dont want to be using anything besides renew/Gheals on the MT... Chances are the MT will not insta die from some massive crit (all tanks have a way to avoid taking huge amount of damage- especially warriors -last stand shield wall etc.)

I tend to use flash heal only when some caster is taking damage for some dumbass reason (like aggroing mobs) or when the tank is seriously low (like seriously 1-hit kill type of seriously) then i spam flash heal until hes back up to a reasonable levle and then g-heal till hes topped
