    Best Meta Gem for Spriest?

Which meta gem is prefered for us Spriests?

Is it: Chaotic Skyflare Diamond +21 Critical Strike Rating and 3% Increased Critical Damage
Or: Ember Skyflare Diamond +25 Spell Power and +2% Intellect ?

And btw any1 know if those still are the PPs to watch on?

CSD. Your mind flay crits, your mind blast crits, and on the off chance that you use sw:death (which btw is a waste of a dps rotation spot now), it crits too. Also, the more you crit, the more you regen. ALSO.. see the shadowform tooltip: Assume a Shadowform, increasing your Shadow damage by 15%, reducing Physical damage done to you by 15% and threat generated by 30%. However, you may not cast Holy spells while in this form. Your Shadow Word: Pain, Devouring Plague, and Vampiric Touch abilities deal increased percentage damage equal to your spell critical strike chance.

Crit is now to spriests like agility is do feral druids.

sw:death (which btw is a waste of a dps rotation spot now)
Apparently you don't read shadowpriest.com forums and check numbers. SW: Death in a rotation and without shows a difference in DPS, using it results in slightly more DPS. It also means more burst damage and a chance for Imp ST.

Back on point. CSD is the better of the two. Here is a copy/paste from Shadowpriest.com on the Pseudo-Damage numbers.

Purified Twilight Opal (9+8*0.21=10.68/ 19 if used in headslot or if you need it for the meta) for Metagem
in some situations where you need the 2 blue gems for the meta but the blue socket boni are crap, you can put a Misty Forest Emerald (8*0.61+*0.21=6.61 /14.93 if you need it for the meta) in it. The value may look a little low, but with a socket bonus like 8 crit in a yellow socket(most helms have that bonus) it's better thanPurified Twilight Opal.
    AND
    Chaotic Skyflare Diamond (40.34+21*0.61-16.64=36.51)

Math of CSD: (Thanks to Mefadin)
But the 3% Increased Critical Damage actually translates to 4.5% extra damage on crits(this isn't different, but is often unclear) and there's a big difference between the amount of crit damage at 70 and the amount at 80. Going by the baseline output file of SimCraft from http://code.google.com/p/simulationcraf ... 80_General, MB/MF(/SW) make up
60% of damage and are crits 40%(or better) of the time. 4800 DPS * 0.6 * 0.4 * 0.045 = 51.84 DPS ~= 40.34 PP. Even using less optimistic values of 3000 DPS * 0.5 * 0.3 * 0.045 = 20.25 DPS ~= 15.76 PP, which would be slightly less valuable once socket requirements are taken into consideration, but it's unlikely to have 1k int and only pull those numbers.
CSD requires at least two blue gems. To ensure this requirement is satisfied, helm will be calculated assuming the red gems elsewhere are replaced by blue gems (loss of 16.64 PP)

Keep in mind the CSD will scale better with your gear along the way to Icecrown.

While 25 spellpower is 25 spellpower, no matter if you got 20% crit or 30% crit.

Not entirely true. VT has been reworked so you do not regain more mana from critting anymore.
Infact the mana regen has nothing to do with your damage at all now.

He never said anything about increasing the manaregen, only that 1% crit = 1% dot damage with shadowform...

Incorrect, check the simulationcraft, at current gear lvls SW slightly increases spriest dps... it's not until later on that SW causes a slight dps loss.

However... if you use your brain you can throw in SW to make up a MB CD when you have to refresh a dot or reapply VE. In addition SW is good to use if you're having mana issues because it provides good DPM and can help keep up IST for extra regen.

Lastly SW can be cast on the move and you are better of casting it while having to move than casting nothing at all.

I agree SW isn't as necessary as it once was but a good spriest will still use it in the right situations.

    Rotation: a planned recurrent sequence

Using SW randomly don't make it a part of the rotation. It's like saying Iceblock for mages is part of the rotation.

If you want to get technical, we don't have a rotation... point is you should use it when applicable and while that isn't every 12 sec it's a lot more often than never.

Correct, we got a spell priortization. And SW is spell in the absolute bottom.

That's the point. But alot of fags keep saying ZOMG YOU HAVE TO USE IT WHEN YOU MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE, because people don't use the ultimative correct wording.

In short: SW sucks, live with it.

People also misconstrue statements like "SW is a DPS loss" and "Worthless to have in a rotation" to mean "The spell isn't worth casting, don't even put it on your hotbar", and go off to spout that elsewhere as the truth from god.

SW is at the bottom of priority. Use it when you're moving, or need to fill a short gap before MB cools down. Don't clip Mind Flays or use a GCD when MB is up and you're stationary to cast SW. In other words, use your freakin brain.
