    Disc PVE healing

Can someone plz tell me why warr still don't get rage through pws? I think this is something that blizz should take care of, I remember pre 3.0 they were talking about allowing this to happen, but i tested it a little bit ago. I put a warr in combat, i bubbled him, he did nothing, he sat there not taking dam and not getting any rage. So why isn't this taken care of I'm getting really annoyed how i have to keep switching targets to bubble and then penance the tank + flash heal etc, makes my life really hard and im sure i am not the only one wishing I could just bubble the warr tank

Honestly, if your tank can't threat through PWS you need a new tank. I know that sounds pretentious but with the changes to threat... there is no way a PWS is gonna gimp his rage that badly.

    Re: Disc PVE healing

Wars can only get rage a couple of ways (other then abillities)

    Those ways are :
    Hitting people
    Getting hit

so you put a shield on them that absorbs 6k you really nerf a lot of his rage. yea i know it sucks for priests healing wars. they should fix it but i highly doubt it will happen .

Face-rolling is not an effective method of healing. Maybe you should be able to have a pally bubble you could put on every player, they could be invinceable and do 200% dps for 30 seconds. Then you could watch porn and eat hot pockets while you have the game minimized. They could even have a little chime sound when it's time to roll for loot.

    Re: Disc PVE healing

    My brother tanks, I heal.

Early on in our tag-teaming instances he told me "let them hit me, it's what I use to generate threat." So I rotate prayer of mending, flash heal, renew, and now penance and we fly through instances generally with great ease. (His stats are fantastic and dungeon runs are usually a smooth ride for all involved).

So the only time he sees a shield pop on him (accompanied by Pain Suppression in dire situations) it means he's at around 10-25% and something went wrong on my end that has delayed my getting a larger heal off (basically I am buying time). He then knows to have his finger hovering over "lay on hands" just in case (if he's on his pally).

Perhaps I don't use shields enough in instances but I primarily use them on anyone other than the tank (if they are taking damage or may have pulled aggro).

well, on some 25 man bosses... or all of them even, they hit for around 6k or more (lolpatchwerk) ... 6k is not going to gimp rage, but protect the warrior...

If your tank is that worried about not taking damage, your tank doesn't want a discipline healer.

We are effective because we mitigate damage before it is taken by PWS and Divine Aegis. Every time you crit you are putting up an absorptive barrier that will deprive him of a spec of rage. So much about discipline revolves around PWS - it provides the Weakened Soul debuff giving us an extra 4% crit on that target, absorbs a tremendous amount of damage (meaning the tank can effectively have higher-than-full health), provides us mana regen on depletion, and gives incredible haste in the form of 0.5 seconds off our next spell with a cast time.

No offense, but if you're not using PWS as a discipline priest you should respec holy

This. PWS is one of our major spells. Ever since healing as disc in WotLK, I've healed tanks of all classes. Of all the tanks to put a shield on, the DK is the only class I know I can pre-shield without consequences. With a warrior, I'm able to shield him early but I try not to pre-shield him so he can at least gain some initial rage. So far I've had no issue with any warrior that I shield, or any other class for that matter.

Healing - 982...If your tank is as badly geared as you he should have loads of rage from the constant crits he is getting and therefore won't mind the bubbles.

    Re: Disc PVE healing

I respecced disc for WLK and have since respecced after seeing a few issues like this. I took all points I had in shield talents except for the +crit on debuff thingy, changed glyphs etc. This means my shields are weaker, but even with all the talents maxed on a raiding tank it doesn't change much. My point being boosting shields aren't worth it if that's what you've done in your tree.

Depending on the group it's happened that the debuff will have left the tank and he'll still have some of that shield left, usually 'cause of rogues or SPriests, but no complaints rage wise so far.

    Re: Disc PVE healing

Im a disc priest and only had and issue once. I casted painsuppression early in a boss fight and the tank wasnt able to build up rage fast enough.

I learned fast form that mistake so i check bindings. After that even with Druid tanks no issues at all. Id say its all timing of your PWS.
To early and you might eat it

    Re: Disc PVE healing

Disc priest are viable to heal ONLY some dungeons (if tank and your spellpower is fine) but holy is always better. For raid discs are useless.

So, if you are speced to disc and you dont want to respec for daily hc, then you probably can heal this, but like i said, only dungeon.

    Re: Disc PVE healing

don't know why you're hating on disc so much jools, but that's far from true...i've NEVER had an issue in any heroic healing as disc, even with tanks who had hit 80 that day or with ret pally or arms/fury warriors or dps spec dk's...just because you don't know how to play a spec doesn't ean you should hate on it.

    My Disc build:

    http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bVIbzhxtrxoVfRzfxt0c

I have been using this build for a few days now. Swapped around a bit between Holy and Discipline that included some shield improving talents, and I like this current build a lot more than all my previous builds. This build that I have now, has no talents to improve my shield whatsoever, but focuses on mana efficiency and increased healing.

I barely ever use a shield on anyone, and never did (leveled as Holy). Shield improvement talents are useless to me, because I never use it anyway. This build, whether you think it's crappy or not, has not failed me once, and I barely ever go out of mana (unless I need to spam some heals, but then either the tank did something wrong or a DPS'er overaggro'ed, and even then, I usually have some mana left). I've been stacking spirit first, then spellpower and then intellect. With a large sum of mana, a crapload of spirit and decent spellpower, this build works very well for me.

    Re: Disc PVE healing

just 1 question...why take silent resolve over a non-useless talent? if you're pulling aggro on mobs that have been touched (if the tank hasn't touched the mob yet then silent resolve doesn't help), something is wrong with the tank. forget where i read it, but "a good tank is now judged on how much dmg they can do, not on how much threat they can produce." except with double-stacked sparks on maly, there are few places where threat's even an issue for DPS, let alone for healers. my spec is very similar to yours but i don't take improved spirit (nearly always have a shammy, it doesn't stack with totems) so i take renewed hope instead, i drop silent resolve and get imp shield, drop desperate prayer/imp healing/1 point healing focus (yay for pushback changes) and get 5/5 borrowed time...PW:S is a big part of disc healing, if there happens to be a prot pally in group giving sanctuary, there's no reason at all to worry about putting up a shield, and if there isn't one tanks should still have plenty of threat generation. Borrowed time is especially nice b/c right now it's buggy, so penance gets the haste from it but doesn't remove the charge, and you get 2 heals with 25% haste bonus.

silent resolve is actually very useful when ur throwing 30k prayers of healing on loatheb ( unless you're a spore-ninja :P )

Jethedo, no Inspiration? my spec is same as yours, i've just taken 0.3 seconds off smite and gheal for 3/3 Inspiration and i suggest you do the same, can't expect shammies to apply their own armor buff whole fight...

only if your tank is unable to do more than 15k threat over the whole nobody-gets-heals duration (which he should have been able to do at lvl 70, mind you)?

its not like i'm idle during these 17 seconds , im throwing shields and smites when shield on CD (yes smites, better than standing and watching, not having mana probs anyway)

besides i start casting the first prayer on the 15 second timer, which if timed properly gives me time for 2 prayers, 50-60k healed total

    Re: Disc PVE healing

mind you i have yet to attempt the achievement where we don't kill any spores, but i've never come remotely close to having threat issues on loatheb doing ProH 2x every 20 seconds, PW:Sing every 4s outside that time, and keeping DoTs and throwing dps into the boss whenever i can aside from those.

if i were attempting that achievement i'd very much hope that one of the dps was pulling aggro before me...i don't bother with a threat meter b/c i run with competent tanks 90% of the time, and they made threat gen so easy for tanks that if i'm pulling aggro on something it likely has not been touched by the tank yet (maybe I threw a renew and then there was an aggro dump or something)...Only time I ever pull aggro is when I go back to AQ 20 for enchant farming and we're killing ossirian, and i guess that's to be expected when you go with yourself and a tank and the boss stuns the tank and runs to the 2nd on aggro who, regardless of talents, is gonna be me.
