    Leveling a priest.

    Morning

    Im currently level 22 on my priest, shadow spec atm. Is it the best way for leveling and what sort of rotation should i use when killing monsters? SW:P then MB and whatever, because MF does very little damage atm.

    Edit: think i have found a decent rotation, holf fire then SW:P then use MB...

    Re: Leveling a priest.

    You can use Holy fire untill lv 40, cause then Shadowform comes, so i would recommend that rotation, After 40 i would say, Mind blast, run backwards while casting pain, and then mind flay untill he's dead, because mind flay slows the enemy down, once you get VT use VT + Pain and then MB, and 1 flay, then he might be dead already if you're getting lower on hp, just put shield up, and always keep VE up

    I think I did the following:
    Put up a shield, MB pull, jump backwards while casting SW:P, then MF till MB is off CD. He should be dead before though.

    Personally, I find Holy a better leveling spec pre-40.

    Drop 3 points in spirit tap, then go pick up holy talents like holy specialisation, divine fury, searing light and spiritual guidance. Get a few healing talents on the side for easier healing in instances (because lets face it, you will be asked to heal more often than not).

    As I recall, rotation revolves around holy fire, SWP, a couple of smites, and then wanding (not to be underestimated). Devouring plague and MB may be used against bigger nasties. Having desperate prayer also helps for "oh snap I pulled too many" moments.

    I'm no priest pro, but I leveled 2 priests that way and it went nicely. At 40 comes shadowform, and then a shadow spec becomes better for leveling. You can then indulge in the classic MB, backpedal, SWP, flay thing.

    wanding is rarely needed, but I'd use it once in a while just to keep the skill in wands leveling...you never know when you'll be completely oom and no pots and need that little bit of extra damage ... or as a healer to do something in between heals.

    get pw:s glyph, it helps...

    hopefully you have spirit tap. i put a dot on the target, then used mind blast or smite... if you are killing multiple mobs and you get spirit tap, use your wand while spirit tap is ticking to get as much of that regen as you can... i leveled my priest when imp wands was still in the disc tree but they removed it.

    I leveled my priest, quite recently, from the 30's to almost 70 as mostly discipline, and later disc/shadow. [spell=33203] is really awesome in pulling large packs at once, and discipline has awesome talents to keep your mana almost full constantly.

    I could pull 4-5 mobs at once, kill them fast, and once they all were dead I'd be in full mana.

    I tried shadow while leveling to compare the two sides of the coin, and I have to say I spent quite a lot of time sitting and drinking. Good DPS vs one target, but you'll simply die vs 5.

    I guess it's mostly about your playing style.

    EDIT: Shadow will become the top leveling spec at some point, but that'll be, in my opinion, after level 60 at the earliest.

    Mind Blast, Pain, Mind Flay, Mind Flay, Fear (PW:Shield if immune to Fear), Mind Flay, Mind Blast, Mind Flay, Mind Flay, Mind Blast

    Mob dead
    And you've only used 122% of base mana to kill a single mob! Awesome!

    Spec disc for leveling.

    I see alot of "my opinion" comments there.
    Its your problem that you fail at playing shadow, not mine.
    If you had any sort of clue, you would understand my 'rotation' suggestion, was stretched much further than actually required to kill a single mob at that level.

    This is by far the best leveling spec for a priest, at any level.
    While you're leveling spend your points in this order: shadow tree -> holy -> discipline.

    The bonus spellpower, the free smites, the ability to heal decently in instances, the massive regen from spirit tap, not wasting extra mana to re-enter shadowform to heal yourself, etc. I used it from 70-80 and didnt have to drink while leveling. My friend is using to level his priest, he started using the spec mid 30s and is now 47, and he says it's great.

    Just try it and see for yourself.
    There isnt really a rotation, just use holy fire whenever CD is up and smite away. Dont waste mana on mindblast. For killing groups just spread SW:P and holy nova away, dont forget to use those free smites when holy nova crits.

    No, actually they're just facts. No need to get all personal. The first real bonus on the shadow tree comes at level 50, when you get [spell=34914]. Until then you've got some +damage and other gimmicks, but nothing to ensure your mana keeps up.

    Even so, in the long run while you're questing, [spell=14777] will give you more mana than [spell=34914]. And obviously every disc spec has [spell=15336]. The only thing shadow has over disc at these levels (sub 60) is more damage. The mana efficiency is horrible.

    And even as far as damage goes, [spell=33203] will ensure you'll be doing 5x as much damage as any shadow spec can ever do, at those levels, since you can pull 5 mobs at once.

    So yeah... I know shadow will become the main spec to use. I switched to full shadow at some point too, but praise shadow all you like; disc is the spec to go with from low levels onward.

    What I meant by quoting the "my opinion" was, your talking about AoE mode with a reflective shield because thats what you prefer. Its a totally different playstyle, like you said so yourself. If hes interested in that then fair enough, but dont discourage him playing shadow just because you dislike it.

    Fair enough. I wasn't trying to discourage him from playing the spec he likes, or try to get him to play a spec I like, but I was rather trying to answer his question "Is it the best way for leveling".

    It's a bit same like playing a mage, and using fire or arcane to level. Both trees are fine once you've got enough talent points, but frost blows them out of the water by a vast margin in efficiency, safety, and such things. So if someone asked me which tree was the "best" for a leveling mage, I would obviously say frost.

    As for the OP, him being at level 22, here's what I would do. If you do go with a shadow spec when leveling, then here's the rotation I would use. Note that there's no VT yet.

    [spell=600]
    [spell=8103]
    [spell=970]
    [spell=15407]
    [spell=15407]
    [spell=8103]
    [spell=15407]
    [spell=15407]

    etc.

    Ouch.
    Remember this, kids, it is very important. Even if your mommy makes you a super hero costume, do not attempt to do any of these things, especially flying. Because you cannot do it. You do not have super powers. Because there is only one Super Grover. And that is me.
