can someone tell me how arena ratings work, and how much arena points you get per match etc etc.

If the questions are really this elementary you may be better off reading on the wow homepage.

The simple answer is as follows:

You start at a 1500 team rating. If you win a game, you win points. If you lose a game, you lose points. The number of points you win or lose are dependant on your hidden rating vs. the hidden rating of the team you are playing.

Also, you need to kill your opponents to win.

And bubble+HS does not work.
