Spriest PvP:er want to run VoA

Yes, I never thought this would happen before, but after trying VoA and we failed I want to be able to run this one.
The new boss is hard and I have far from dps needed. I'm a pvper and that's the gear I'm aiming for, and VoA is another way to be able to gear up faster.
I'm wondering about tips that can make me have nice pvp spec but still damage enough to run VoA? Any tips on specs and also gems would be great.
Is there any way to boost the dps on the pvp gear?
I'm tailor as well, and if there's any pve gear that I could make there that would affect my dps better than pvp gear please tell.

Specs, gems, enchants, gear... all information you can give is welcome =)

It's not a matter of dps, it's a matter of not failing to kill the adds fast enough.

Killing them fast enough is about situational burst, and as shadowpriest you're out of the question there anyway. You're there for replenishment, not dps.

Not true Nezoia, there are 12 seconds for killing the add, that's just about enough to put swp, plague, mindblast and flay it to death. He's not there for replenishment, knowing pugs there will be at least 5 dpsers doing 2k dps with full t7.5 since they're morons. Problem with that boss is spreading and reacting to the overcharged add. Any class can dps it and should dps it, even nonbursty shadowpriest.

Dual Specs? The new thing that was launched during patch 3.1? You can now have two different specs. You take a PVP spec for the battle for Wintergrasp and change to a PVE spec when you are about to do Vault of Archavon.

And it's not 12 seconds to kill the add. They get one stack every 2 seconds, so that's 10 x 2 = 20 seconds to kill the add.
    Statix will suffice.

With pvp gear you'll miss a lot on raid bosses.
Try to eat some stuff to get a spell hit food buff.

Get a Dual spec, pve spec for pve encounters helps a lot ^^

Well, then I will be missing out my disco pvp spec and I use that spec now as my second spec. That's why I need to adapt my one and only shadow and I'm looking for tips =)

Yes, but I can't really get a pve-spec since I need shadow pvp and disco pvp =) The food thingie was a good tip though

VoA is for PvE players not PvP. Its to give raiders a shot at some descent PvP gear with little effort. I'm not saying don't give it a try, but don't go in there with 5% hit and 900 resilience and expect to pull your weight and down the boss.

They are practically giving away free deadly gear now, so why bother if your a pvper and getting your gear form actual pvp.

You have a point, but I want to try it =)
I have around 8% hit now and maybe I can food buff it a little bit, I hope there are other tips as well =)

With 20 seconds on the timer, you can just Dot him up with all your dots. Maybe leave DP out. But the SP's damage will be almost maximised if you switch fast enough. Then you don't need imba PvE gear to kill him, though I must admit that the adds are really hard to kill with their HP-pool.

What you might be able to do if Shadow Priest DPS fails, go in with your Disc PvP spec and heal. Disc PvP spec doesn't differ much from Disc PvE spec so you should be fine either way.

DP isn't needed in the rotation? What rotation would you recommend?

Disc healer I don't know. Have never healed more than during leveling and some battlegrounds and lvl 70 and below in dungeons and the dungeons I healed as shadow... and get my fair amount of "healer suck" in the dungeons. In battlegrounds heals are loved but that is probably cause most people aren't counting on them to come. Being a "healer suck" in voa is harder than just not having enough dps... they were quite friendly to me when I tried voa even if my dps was too low. As healer people usually aren't that friendly if I make mistakes and I'm a bit afraid =)
In arena I wont be main healer, more of a disco dps in some crazy way =)

Re: Spriest PvP:er want to run VoA

Just switch quickly, VT+Pain then MB+SWD for some pseudo burst [if they crit(tm)], MF with MB on cooldown till they or the raid dies. I would also say drop DP.

Nezoia has bean taking some good drugs if he said that SPriests are not for dps What is true, is that we have close to no BURST dmg, no cooldowns to pop... and drinking WIld Magic potions in VoA seems like overkill TBH :P

If you want to run raids with a PvP spec (new VoA is a raid), then make sure:

    - you have a spec with Mind Melt and Shadow Power (shadow crit spec) and some Satin items (because I don't know what spec/items you play with, lots of ppl go with full mooncloth and no crit talent builds)

    - You have Hit Rating... PvP gear usualy has 105-150 hit (you should have that much anyway), you can (should) also use:
    http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=57437 - hit food
    http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=60354 - hit elixir + http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=60367

Tailoring also has some nice epic cloths (and blue hat with +hit that is kinda cool), these can be expensive tho. See if making these will help, maybe it may be worth the cost.

Some nice things you can also get:

What's the difference between an arcane mage who hits 5k dps for a few seconds with all his short term buffs, and a shadowpriest who regularly hits 5k sustained dps?
You have like 10 seconds (number taken out of my arse, never checked) to kill the enraged add before it wipes the raid. It has 1 million HP (again can't be arsed to look up numbers) therefore your dps crew needs to do 100k dps or a bit more to kill it before it kills the raid. Assuming 18 dpsers (I'll now spare you the comments about where all those number come out from...) everyone will have to do 5k6 so the raid survives the add. It simply doesn't matter if this dps comes from burst of sustained dps.

Seeing as I was number 1 or 2 on boss dps AND individual add dps on the few occasions I've been there, I'd say: You're out of the question. A shadowpriest is there for DPS (and buffs which include misery and replenishment).

Well, with DP on a 24 sec CD it'll probably be on CD unless you specifically wait with it till the add starts to grow. Also, VT does more DPS than DP so you'd want to cast VT first. I don't know too much about SP rotations since it's only my offspec, but I do know that DoTs need their time to do enough damage and 20 seconds (read 18 seconds because of reactions) will only give 5 ticks so it might just not be enough compared to Mind Flay (because MF is spammable). But someone could post how many ticks a DP would need to outdamage MF, considering they both give static numbers increased by the same amount of crit. But I'd need a SP theorycrafter for that.
