    Shadow Fiend Bug ???

    Hi all,

i was grinding yesterday and sent my shadowfiend on a mob i haven't dotted or touched before, the fiend killed the mob and i was NOT ABLE TO LOOT it!?!?
Another mate told me they were running a heroic dungeon and the shadowfiend was out while killing the boss, they were not able to loot the boss after this.
Is this a know bug, when the fiend hits the mob/boss before a player does, so loot is counted for the fiend (which should be yours anyway...) ?

    thx

I don't know about the boss thing, that may be a legitimate bug. However speaking as a hunter I know that if you don't hit the mob once and let the pet do all the work, you wont be able to loot the corpse. They may have fixed it by now, but I really don't take the chance. Just put a dot on the mob or wand it in your case.

its intended that mobs solely killed by a pet wont give loot or anything

    been ingame since lages
Many class changes. You won't like the ones made to your own class but you'll think the changes made to the 9 other classes are all overpowered. Tigole

Haven't heard of anything like this from anyone. As long as you hit the mob once then you should be able to loot it. I'm sure your fiend didn't solo that boss but it might not have had anything to do with the fiend.

I believe you need to do more than 50% of the damage in order to gain experience / reputation and a loot table from the mob. This is very apparent when grinding low level mobs such as Bloodsail Bucaneers. One of these mobs killed by a pet (i.e Treants) or a passive effect (i.e Thorns) won't count as being killed by you and hence will not be lootable or give reputation.

If your shadow fiend kills a target on its own the mob won't yield any xp, loot of rep. It's the same thing with others pets, such as hunter pets, minions and ghouls. However, to get loot from the mob you actually just have to damage it, be it by a single melee. At least from my own experience with the shadow fiend.

    This.

As said before, it has been like this for a very long time now. Always remember: "If you want ph4t lootz - kill it yourself!".

Not correct... you just need to get on the targets threat list... if you send your shadowfiend to sole kill a mob, you don't register any threat unless you do some kind of hostile action. If you never appear on the mobs threat list before it dies you simply can't loot it because the game thinks you weren't involved.

If you simply wand it once (like I do) you will be able to loot it, you can dot it if you like but you will find the fiend + dot will kill the mob well before your fiend is ready to despawn and thus you will lose a lot of mana regen. Fiend + 1 wand and maybe finish the mob with a SW when your fiend despawns is the way to go.

Hitting it once gets you on it's threat table... next time i'll test healing myself to see if that works... i'm of the belief its to do with the threat table rather than dealing damage.

Heal your shadowfiend, or even toss a Shield on it. It works.
