How much hit? Shadow Priest edition

Ok. I just recently got into a discussion about hit for different classes. Unfortunately, my lack of SPriest knowledge is... Disturbing... My friend says Spriests dont need as much hit as other classes, and is sitting at around 118 hit right now. Isnt this below 11% hit? Talented he gets 6% (Giving the rest of us 3%... Yum.). Or is it just some odd mechanic with Spriests that means you guys dont need as much hit?

Your friends lack of Spriest knowledge is disturbing. The hit cap for non-draenei, full talented Spriests is 289.

    118 is just bad.

hit when measuring for pve purposes is always based off lvl 3+ mobs (lvl 83 - boss mobs) which need 17% hit now. from 3% misery and 3% shadow focus, that leaves spriests needing 11% hit still. if you are alliance (unless for some reason you dont have a draeni in your raid) you only need 10% to hit with spells.

if you are talking about pve, you get all the hit you need from just talents

    I always go with 289.

Is it raid wide or just group? I was under the impression it was group only?

    It is party only.

Yeah that's what I thought. Good thing we have 4-5 Blue people raiding at the moment I guess. I still don't trust them living.

    11%, it's the magic number...

17% is the magic number, it just so happens we get 3% from shadow focus (assuming you put 3/3 which you should) and 3% from misrey... so the number can be reduced to 11% from gear if you talent correctly.

Assuming proper talents the cap is 289 hit rating or 263 if you're a pre-teen alliance with a Dranei in your party (and of course you'll have to cross your fingers he isn't bad and dies early often). Perhaps better to go with 289 and know you are hit capped no matter what.

improved dp is bugged, the initial damage can miss, no matter what your hitrating is, while the dot is applied correctly

Re: How much hit? Shadow Priest edition

Last time when I read the forums, the Devouring Plague miss was a known issue. Judging from your post I suppose they still havent fixed it.

The DoT should still apply even if you "miss" though.

EDIT: above poster beat me to it

There's the issue with misses on the instantdamage part of DP, but also you can miss your DP dot if you didn't use SW:P, VT or MF on the target first to get misery up.

I have 303 hit, 11.70% +6% hit from talents. I never miss, but last night on a dummy, my Improved Devouring Plauge missed 3 times in a row.

Re: How much hit? Shadow Priest edition

There is a theory that imp DP still suffers from the innate 1% chance to miss... either thats true or it's bugged, haven't seen any blues confirming anything about imp DP.
