I think we should assume a cooldown, or the epic gems will be more common than green gems.

This sounds REALLY odd... like... REALLY ODD. I dont get this at all...
They're tweaking the gem economy. My guess is, if all gems were near the relative values they'd like, all the transmutes would follow the purple model. As it is, green and blue gems are in oversupply, orange and yellow gems are in high demand, and red gems are in very high demand.

Enough prospecting gets done in order to fill the economy's hunger for red gems. All other colors are produced in equal proportion as a side-effect. So from Blizz's perspective, there needs to be a new way to consume blue and green gems so those colors have somewhere to go.

A lot will depend on whether epic gem transmutation is limited by a 24-hour cooldown, or cooldown-free (ie limited by hassle alone).

Re: new five transmutation in Alchemist

As much as i hate to say it (transmute spec alch + max JC alt with loads of tokens) this will almost certainly be 24 hr cd else the market will get flooded straight away. already got 3 stacks of forest emerald = 20 purple epic = 6 red epic.

still good news to finally see a use for transmute spec - to rare procs on primal transmute and metas sell less than mats.

    85 pala (tank1); 85 DK (tank2; 85 priest (unused), 85Drood (heals); 85 lock (dps); 85 warrior (Tank3) 85 hunter ;83 Shammy (Ele/Resto);65 rogue

Re: new five transmutation in Alchemist

I fully agree with these changes and the lack of a cooldown on the transmutes. There is no need for a cooldown because the limiting factor is the supply of rare gems such as in case of the Cardinal rubies. Dont forget, to get a cardinal ruby you will need to grind down about 54 stacks (6 (1 in 6 chance) times 9) of Saronite Ore or about 9 (1 in 6 chance per 1.5 stacks of Titanium ore) stacks or Tatanium ore. That is A TON of mining needed to get one rare gem. Granted, at first the supply of Cardinal rubies will be large as people finally have a use for thier stockpiled Forest Emeralds but this supply boon will not last long. Eventually people will be struggling to get the Forest emeralds required for this.

Re: new five transmutation in Alchemist

Yay for having 4 stacks of forest emeralds in my gb and with 60 badges plus 60k honor and being an alch

im guessing thats worth 14k gold?

Im assuming each worth around 900g ( and that ill buy 1 more emerald)

Re: new five transmutation in Alchemist

And since these are transmutes, they can proc extras.

Re: new five transmutation in Alchemist

Hmmmm looks I'll be respeccing to transmutation mastery for 150g, even a single proc will probably cover the expenses of respeccing.

Re: new five transmutation in Alchemist

I can confirm that there is indeed NO cooldown on transmuting any of the epic gems, even the cardinals at this stage of testing on the ptr.

And dont forget you can also buy epic gems with honor (10k per gem), 15 heroism badges buys you an epic gem of your choice also.

So they are going to be everywhere whether or not there is a transmute CD or not as there are other means of obtaining them.

I almost forgot, dont forget prospecting titanium ore for epics aswell

considering that people will get epic gems for only 10k honor, 15 badges and prospecting-which I doubt will have a CD, i don't see how alch xmutes will realistically be the cause of market oversupply. It makes no sense to say profession 'x' (aka JC) "you can process as many gems as you want every day" while profession 'y' (aka Alch) "you can only make ONE gem per day". Epic gems will never be at the prices of TBC, because there are so many EASY ways to get them, they are just the next step up from blue gems this time around.

    Not likely.

It did. I saw a link a while back saying the JC gain was 48sp, alchemy gain 47sp and the other professions 46 sp.

Flask of the North is a buff to leveling, Arena and PvP. It means alchemists will get in the region of 50 spellpower like professions such as JC and Leatherworking carry around all the time. Stop moaning. All of these changes are good and none of them are bad.

Re: new five transmutation in Alchemist

Asking the majority of people to stop moaning here is like asking them to spread wings and fly :. Its just as likely for either to happen, and just as likely to have someone fall flat on their face.

TL/ DR : My guess is that despite someone kindly linking the epic gem transmute charts from the PTR someone then turns round and bleats alchemy isn't useful. Boo-hoo - I have it on 3 characters and it is highly useful. The Flask of the North is a great thing for heroics/ general farming etc to actually get some use out of mixology, it is constantly using the profession *just as a profession should be used*. Really I can't understand this "I must whine" mentality, Blizz make all profs pretty much onpar with each other (bar engineering) and still people whine?

Seeing as I have over 500 badges of heroism spare I consider the epic gem transmutes on my toons purely for profit, but I'd image a 20 hour cd if anything to be placed on them.
