    Priest in Arenas...with hit?

So i recently picked up Arenas this past month with my hunter and Dk friend. We've doen 101 or so games and have a 1635 rating so i think we're doing swell. Anyways i began to research priest in arenas, specs, glyphs, gear, ect. and i came across the very high rated arena priest sporting hit gear. This really confused me because up til now i was under the impression that hit was not required for pvp. Is hit needed for arenas and if so how much of it? And wouldn't the stats sacrificed to get the hit be detrimental to a priest who's main job is to survive?

If anyone can clear up this confusion my thanks

    This is me btw:P

    For standard targets: 5%.
Then you have racials like "-2% chance to get hit by nature/shadow spells"
Then you have Rogues with -4% to get hit, Retribution Paladins as well. I'd suggest staying with 5% hit.

    Edit:

And wouldn't the stats sacrificed to get the hit be detrimental to a priest who's main job is to survive?
Well, you can lose games by missing an important (mass)dispell, or manaburn.

I've got to admit im confused...

If you're healing, why would you need hit?

If you're shadow, why are you in pvp?

Hit goes to dispelling which can be very important in PvP situations.

As a disc priest you are healing but also:

    fear
    mana burn
SWD (to break sheep, to burst low hp tarteg, to triegger PoM, etc)
SWP, DP (always keep dots on target)
pop haste trinket and HolyFire/Mindblast to help burst a target down

Getting a miss for any of those can be game breaking

This pretty much covers most of it.

    Re: Priest in Arenas...with hit?

you need around 158 hit for a disc priest in pvp for your mass dispels etc, and even then they wont work 100% of the time
you also need about 120 spell penetration ontop of that to counter resists on fears and dispels, because resist and miss are 2 different concepts

it sucks, welcome to arena as a priest

there is no number for how much +hit u need, like 158. and you dont get +hit for mass dispels since u need like 30%+ then. its mainly for fears imo.

"priest who's main job is to survive?"

mhm, and for that u need to be abel to fear etc and your job is to cc aswell and for that u need +hit

As far as I know you need 4% hit rating to be capped against regular opponents, thats before they put debuffs and stuff on you, I think. But, Blood Elfs also have Magic Resistance, decreasing the chance to be hit by spells by 2%, so you need 6% for that.

That's all i know in terms of hit. But also, Spell Penetration is very useful for dispelling.

Hit is good when you have best of the best PvP gear, only than is it worth to socket (maybe enchant) hit.

There's no such thing as a class that only heals in arena.

Resistance has nothing to do with chance to hit.

As a priest, a missed fear can make or break a match. Its really important to have nothing at all miss, a random missed spell here and there can mean the difference between gladiator or rival

I got 6% real easy as a resto druid and my cyclones never miss in clutch situations. I also have 75 spell pen so that against rival druid teams my spells are never resisted.

Hit neck/cloak/titan forged chest (equiv of deadly) and deadly ring. voila 173 hit.

    Re: Priest in Arenas...with hit?

all healers get hit for arena.

i myself run with 5% for belfs... but was considering upgrading to 6% because of the -2% racial. And BTW, the chance to hit on a same level mob(includes pvp) is 4% not 5% http://www.wowwiki.com/Spell_hit

i play shaman and hit is mega important for shocks, hex, and purge.

priest are in the same boat, dispels, mana burn, and fear are all affected by the hit cap and decent pvp players get the base hit cap.

If you want to play in the high end Arena brackets you need to ensure your Fear always hits. You also need to provide some backup dps with Holy Fire & Smite during CC to bring down targets before they can be healed. 1 miss can mean the difference between winning a match and losing. Thats how competitive the higher brackets are and the margin between winning and losing.
