As a last note: I beg you to take a small look at this forum. The kind of arguments being made (look at the posts above me), the sentences, the structure of the reasoning. Check the WoW forums. Then, if you want, make and experiment and go take a read on another forum like, say, the D&D forums, or even Dustloop.

Do you feel WoW is making this generation smarter? Every time I cruise through the Blizzard forums, I shiver. I know I'll sound like Grandpa Doomsday Prophet, but it's the first time I see a game and deem it unhealthy. And trust me, I hate all the idiotic ranting over censorship and limitations in videogames. However, the WoW community is my first contact with a gaming community that seems to become dumber and more socially inept day by day. I understand it's a strong judgement, and I'll accept moderation if it will be felt as necessary, but go take a look at the pvp forums for a taste of a bunch of 20 years olds with the grammar of first graders and the wits of a lump of sand squaring off in terms of "post on ure main", "your wrong and u suxx", "no u" and similar pearls of intelligence.
Now you'll scream coincidence I guess, but I beg you to go and take a look to another "fantasy hobby" forum and see the level of communication there. If tomorrow some American University came out with a funky "WoW makes you dumb" study, I'll admit that for the first time it would take me a second to jump up and call it bullsh@t.

Good post and I do agree with most of your points, but generalizing that it's only "20 year olds" that can't type coherant phrases or include all the letters in all of their words is rediculous and insulting to us educated "20 year olds" that play WoW. I guarantee that a fair number of those kewl lollercopter spellers are just lazy people in their mid twenties, thirties and forties. This argument generally boils down to to the laziness of the person typing. I really hate using the misuse/overuse of u, there, your, rouge, pwnt, etc but certain things you really just have to look over and tolerate.

Have you ever checked out elitist jerks tho? It's absolutley rediculous how little they ban people for there in my opinion, but if these forums are too "juvenile" for your tastes, then just make an account over there. No hard feelings intended but just a serious recommendation if you really haven't found what you've been looking for in forums all over the net.

The 20 year old remark was aimed at the most common demographic, and technically I'm in my twenties too.

I regularly post on EJ, and well, I have my perplexity over the moderation too. It's not like it's too harsh - the name of the site justifies just anything; it's just very stupid. I was banned for 5 days for going out and saying "Dude, you're dead wrong" to a guy who posted 5 lines of absolutely wrong and misleading info. I received moderation for "not adding anything new to the topic", however the 5 lines of wrong maths, wrong assumptions and wrong conclusions are still there, because the priest player moderator who banned me quite likely had no clue about my class.

And you can check that everywhere in the forums. Kaubel runs around like an headless chicken who has no clue about game mechanics, banning random people for saying actually correct stuff but without putting in enough numbers, while a redicolous amount of useless, redundant or plainly wrong info is up on their forums.

They're still Jerks, and it's great for them, but there's nothing remotely close to the Elite about their forums now.

Of course he didn't. Nobody, who tries to cheapen this guy's achievement trough ad hominem have achieved something on their own. Their self esteem is so low that the only way they can feel better about themselves is to insult someone and drag the person below them, giving them the artificial sense of pride, because "hey, at least I am not as bad as this guy!". While actually, they are far, far more sad and pathetic. That's the typical bully motivation doing what they do.

Raising your own self esteem at the expense of insulting others is extremely pathetic. The saddest thing about it, though, is that many people see doing this as nothing bad. Maybe they just don't understand the reasoning behind it. I don't know. But it just saddens me. This is why humanity is so damn miserable all the time - we don't even understand ourselves properly and hurt ourselves and others out of sheer ignorance.
