Focus Magic; Do we benefit from it most?

In a raid environment, my crit rating is about 42% without FM. With FM, my DPS seems to rise a fair amount because of the number of hot streaks. In a fight where I may be around 4700 DPS, I'm suddenly hitting 5600-6k+

One of the mages in my guild said that Focus Magic benefits Moonkins more-so than mages. I don't understand how this can be.

Anyone have any information on this? Thanks

i dunno the facts about it, but in my guild, we give it to a boomkin and a elemental shaman (shaman being the prio)

Re: Focus Magic; Do we benefit from it most?

i don't really see a difference....i mean i never use it in my guilds. But i gotta start using it

i mean, it increases spell damage...so it would benefit all spell casters the same...

    oh wait....i'm dumb....

    i'm thinking of Amplify Magic...

    edit: yay for stupidity!

Last I checked actually a Fire Mage benifits more... just by default Boomkins tend to have a higher crit rating, so mages often FM them as it's likely to proc more often.

    i do that usually
i did a raid with 3 mages yet we didnt do a chain i didnt get a lot of pyroblasts that time

and with the 6% you get 3% from the buff and 3% when they crit

    finally someone non-retarded posts.

giving it to an elemental shaman is a waste since they crit every 8 seconds anyway, there's no need for them to have 3% more. boomkins need crit for eclipse procs and spriests need it for...the t1 talent that increases mana regen when mindblast crits, forget the name. destro locks have a 100% chance to crit whenever their imp crits, so it may be useful to put it on the imp and not them (joking), so locks don't really need FM that much. holy palis have insane crit as is and don't benefit that much from 3% more since they would be nearing crit DR through their main healing nuke.

anyway, crit rating value in terms of highest spellpower/DPS gain: FFB mage-->TtW/fire mage-->boomkin-->spriest-->elem shammy/destro lock (tie, since both have guaranteed crits)

Can you give it to pets? Because if so a geared Demonic Lock might be the best bet cuz when the pet crits, everyone gets +Spell Power from Demonic Pact which if the Lock stacks a lot of spell power could be one of the best buffs for casters.

Demonic Pact, of course, giving 10% of the Lock's spell power to the raid. Normally people use Shamans for this.. but Demonic Pact could stack higher because of it being 10% of the Lock's Spell Power.

You cast it on another mage. He casts his on you. You both have a standard 3% crit from having the buff on you, and you get another 3% crit when it procs.

I don't really know the math, (who does ;D) But Moonkins get pretty large bonus from it too. More Eclipse Proc(30% crit or +30% dmg to different nukes) + each crits regens 2% their total mana.
Ele shams get clearcasting proc 40% less mana for 2 spells + 10% more dmg.
Spriest Don't scale well with haste but crit is a good dps increase for them.
Holy pallies get more illumination proc (Mana back, larger heals).
Fire mages get more Hot streak proc (instant pyro) + some regen.
So take your pick. I make my guildies do /roll for focus magic and save me the headache :P

Exactly, which means a 6% crit uptime.

Re: Focus Magic; Do we benefit from it most?

Exact stat comparisons of course depend on your current stats/talents, but a typical set of values might look like:
    Spellpower: 1.3
    Haste rating: 1.1 [1.4 if not soft-capped]
    Crit rating: 0.9
    Intellect: 0.5
    Spirit: 0.4
Quoted from EJ, that's for Moonkins (http://elitistjerks.com/f73/t59457-m...pdated_3_2_ptr)

Moonkins seem like they get tons of benefit from crit because of the mana restore and Eclipse, but realistically, almost half (over a long fight) your DPS time is spent in Starfire Eclipse buff, which is 60% crit to Starfire for 15 seconds straight. Sure crit rating has dim. returns or whatever you want to argue, but personally having raided on a boomkin on and off in Wrath, 3% crit isn't going to help you simply PROC Eclipse any more often, it's total luck.

If you have another mage with Focus in your raid, trade Focus's's's (Foci? lawl). 3+3=6 as stated before. If not, then go for an FFB mage, or I personally like putting them on healers when I have no trader, just because buffing healers seems more beneficial and I feel more important lol.

In a raid with no elemental shaman and 1 or more caster dps having a good demonology lock is always worth it. That aside, Demonic Pact already has a near 100% uptime, the 3% crit on the pet is not worth it. As far as Warlocks go, we don't benefit from crits that much - I don't get why people always give my destruction lock focus magic.

Simply screw the others and keep it with the mages, if you have no other mages give it to the person who pays you the most 8).

It benefits everybody because we all need crit now, it used to be only ele shamies, boomkins and (maybe arcane mage) who made 50% crit raid buffed.
