This is really old, but nonetheless, it could reflect old plans that Blizzard had. Obviously ones that never made it, but it still shows that they may have been considering doing something with Gilneas.

There was a bunch of INVALID flightpaths all over the flightmaps during vanilla. Something like... 1.10?
Anyway, most of them didn't make sense, some happened to be on top of unused locations and that created a bunch of rumours. I didn't dig up the game files back then, but most likely they're just test locations, just like there are tons of test teleport spells:

check the post above you:
the real "owner" of the pics found that and didn't wanted they to be shared, so deleted them and added those fakes

It could have been a quick fix to the bug that people found during vanilla when you managed to get all the FPs that you could get: All of your FPs would become unlearned. Instead of fixing the real logic problem in the code, the easiest way to fix it would probably have been to add a FP that noone could actually get, thereby preventing anyone actually achieving the conditions that created the bug.
