The fact that you would be wearing leather alone makes this idea a non-starter. Plus, there is no defense rating on druid gear anyway, since they achieve uncritability through talents.

It will probably work against trivial content that you massively outgear, while receiving huge spam heals. I'm not sure that should count as "working" though .

Well back in vanilla enhancement shaman had allot of tank type of abilities and talents & could tank some dungeons. by the start of TBC blizzard decided they did not want to let shaman tank anymore though. You might be able to tank some easy heroics as enhancement spec if you stack tons of stamina and defense, however getting and keeping threat will be a problem even if you don't get threat reducing talents.

i did some googling and came across him... if you watch some of his videos on youtube he has tanked naxx and ulduar... but it looks like he has a few hunters constantly MD'ing him to keep aggro.

if you try this good luck finding any groups/guilds that would let a shaman tank

Stoneclaw does not generate threat for you, just for itself.

not hunters, but a single rogue usually. Each tricks glyphed rogue gives me 1/3rd of their threat. My wifes rogue does 8k AOE tps, 4-6k tps single target, combined with my 2200 tps. We can outtank most tanking classes in a 10man environment. Heroics are a joke.
and to bjarnii, dont use druid gear just use pvp gear and tanking accessories. Resilience still reduces the chance to be crit in pve, though it does not reduce damage taken by the extra % advertised in the tooltip. It takes 5.6% of crit resist through resilience/defense to become crit immune in pve. It takes quite a bit of effort to turn a shaman into something that resembles a tank in terms of mitigation, but its not impossible. Shaman generally have very low avoidance (25-30%) and we're expected to use glyphed stoneclaw absorb, and maelstrom weapon instant cast heals to make up for it.

well you may be able to tank some stuff, like there was all-shaman 10OS raid with shaman tanking, but its more for the laughs, as in its NOT viable, we are not meant to tank even if we can use shields. So if you are comfortable with tanking heroics and some easy mode 10mans at max- go for it. If for some reason you feel like doing it in a awkward way(as in choosing a class not suitable for it).

IMHO- its like painting with a paintbrush in your mouth- doable, but why not use a hand for it?

id say its more like turning your 75,000$ car into a submersible submarine recreational vehicle. The finished product may not be able to drive like a car anymore, but hell it can go underwater for a few hours!

and yea it takes alot of effort, gold and patience to gather the pvp and tanking stuff to pull this off, regular practice is necessary. If your looking for a serious endgame 25man tank, just roll a druid/warrior/pally. If you've already got a decent tanking class, and know a rogue who doesnt mind lending a tricks here n there, go ahead and build your shaman a tank set. You'll find shaman to be a fun 'proccy' tank. Much less boring than my warrior/druid tanks.

Defense gear is not the only way to become uncrittable.. The idea would be get the rings etc like you mentioned and then use Enh. PvP gear socketed with a whole lot of Stam for the rest.. The OP stated quite clearly that this was only for the lulz - As in, just for impressing people in heroics and stuff, not actually seriously trying to take this endgame...

NO ONE is saying that Blizzard should make the shaman a tanking class, no one is saying the trees aren't the way they should be.. you sir are a moron.


And for those of you stating the someone tanking type talents that shaman used to have, it was stated by Blizzard when TBC came out that the reason they decided to allow Paladins on Horde and Shaman on alliance, was because that due to balance issues they kept having to make the Paladin and Shaman classes too similar (the shield spec/defence etc).. So instead they did away with that idea, and gave Horde and Ally all classes.

To the OP, to be honest if you are this bored waiting for ICC to come out I suggest doing achievements to kill time. Going through the trouble to get all the neccessary requirments to be able to tank as a shaman and then finding the right people to make it actually happen only to have all that interupted when ICC is released will make you exteremly disappointed.

It is not worth the effort.

I am personally against Shaman tanking, I did it a little during Vanilla but I haven't since, I have however come up with one or two ideas that may help it become viable. This does not mean I want to see it implimented, however!:

Bring back Shield Specialzation (A no brainer)

Glyph of Fiery Defence (Major)
Basically allows your Lava Lash to act like Shield Slam while you have a shield equipt, causes a high amount of threat.

Glyph of Howling Frost (Major)
Casting Frostshock on a Target that is not currently attacking you allows you to Taunt as well as the skills current affects. If the target is already attacking you the Taunt has no affect.


Glyph of Agile Defence (Minor)
Converts so much Agility into Parry and Block value. Not so much that stacking Agility would result in high amounts of the two, however.

Glyph of Feared Strikes (Minor)
Taking the Spirit Weapons Talent allows you to generate 40% more threat. (Mainly to remove the 30% reduced threat while giving us a little edge threatwise, while allowing us to still Parry)


Rockbiter Weapon:
Increases your defence rating by XX and increases your Stamina by XX. (Think the DK tanking Rune)


Again, I am against Shamans tanking, I just think things up when a bit bored :P
