Engineering, could use some clearifications please.

Hello,

Engineering looks really fun but tbh it seems so alien to me as it appears to be so different to all the other professions.

I am a looking to take Engineering on my Hunter that I mostly PvP with and a lot of that is Battle grounds with some arena with friends here and there. I realize I cannot use Engineering stuff in the arena. What I wish to know about is tinkers. How do they work?

I read about a tinker to the helm for 45 stam, and one for the cloak and boots and such. WHat I am unsure about is can you have more than one tinker? Do tinkers replace enchantments. In other words if I put a tinker on my boots, can I have a tinker on my helm as well?

If you can link me or please explain as much as you can because atm it seems rather confusing to me.

Tinkers work just like regular enchants. 1 per item.

yes. my main is an engi and he can't have icewalker on his boots at the same time as Nitro boots.

Worth mentioning though, belt tinkers do work alongside the belt buckles from blacksmiths. So while you can't put a tinker and an enchant on the same pair of gloves/boots or a cloak/helm, you can put both a tinker and a belt buckle on any belt.

tinker are like every profession special enchant on gear : Op gems for Jc, extra sockets for Bs. extran enchants on ring, tailoring extra item patch on gear......they are mostly equivalent to each other..but gnomish engineering is way more fun then any other profession...

Might be worth mentioning... my Warrior is BS/Engineering, and on gloves for example I can put an extra socket -and- the Pyro Rocket.

engi is great, now i´ve finally got one at high engi i wish all my chars had it... and tinker replaces an ench yes. gives some great bonusses though, ever tried hunter jumping from LM to BS in AB? great fun with parachute. also, pyrorocket is pretty great for bgs too, since it has a megarange, something like 40 yards, just that final blow on the blinking mage and such. nitro boosts in pvp helps too :P id just say gogogo engi FTW!

With 3.2 and epic gems and the profession-improvements engineerings enchants are now as good as the standard enchants for back & feet.

If you want to gain advantages by chosing the right profession, don't take engineering.
The funny stuff doesnt work in arenas and almost every other profession combination has some advantages.
