i'm wondering if there is anything i can do to up my dps i want to be as high up as possible in our raids.

Taylormade: just a quick fix since I'm in class, but I think you would benefit more from an immolate glyph than a life tap one, at least as destro spec. Extra immolate damage also boosts your conflag burst, so that would be the better option for you.

As a minor note, I would also swap soul link for shadowfury or a point in soul leech, as the first will offer utility (anub-arak hc) and the 2nd may save your ass with minor healing.

The thing about Suppression is a pretty good point. I can take the points from that into Demonic Aegis. The rest of that stuff about Improved Soul Leech? Nah. The amount of threat reduction I'd lose, the amount of stamina, my aoe stun ... those are things I really don't want to lose, and they get a lot more use than you'd think. I don't think that opportunity cost would be worth the piddling amount of replenishment that would be coming from me.

You can't have too much haste as Destruction.

I agree that Imp Soul Leech is worth it. I also disagree in that Replenishment is worth it - we're the only high-dps spec that has it, unless your server is overflowing with Ret Paladins (mine isn't). Shadow Priests are not something most guilds actively recruit and all Hunters are MM at the moment.

Hey everyone out there!

As a Find-out-by-myself-what-works-and-what-doesn't-work-for-me kind of guy I am not too well informed about the theorycraft of warlocks in general.

But since I don't want to be a burden to my raid or anything, I wanted to ask if there is anything I can improve DPS- and/or rotation-wise.

Since I am the only warlock in my raid that was willing to try a Demo-Spec (works for me and is actually more fun than I expected) to enhance the raid with the 10% Spellpower-Buff, I had no one to really talk about the whole Demonology thing.

And talking to my fellow locks would not have been successful for they are less informed than I am and really rather the "I'll-do-whatever-I-like-best-and-it's-only-a-fun-game-anyway" kind of guys (and girls) (nothing wrong about that though).

I know I only got 14% Hit in the armory link (see below) but either there is a shadow priest / moonkin in the raid or I can swop trinkets (Sundial of the Exiled is replaced by Elemental Focus Stone in those cases), so that is no problem for me at all.

Rotation: Shadowbolt > Metamoph > Curse of Doom / Curse of Agony (if the boss won't live the full minute) > Immolation-Aura (I don't know the name of the spell in the English version, did just translate it roughly) > Immolate > Corruption > Shadowbolt (Spam until DOts need to be refreshed)
And of course the Shadowbolt-Soulfire-rotation when the boss is below 35% health.

To sum it up: Basically, all I want to know is if I am doing okay or if there is a potential for improvement in my way of fighting.

Sorry for the delay, flu kicking my ass. And don't worry about the translations, I enjoy a challenge. babelfish.altavista.com is my friend.

You are above where I expect you to be, but I suspect that is because you attacked the lvl 80 dummy. If you attack the boss dummy, you would miss a lot more (your hit is low), your spells would be passively resisted a lot more (more below), and you would have a lower crit rate.

So... my only advice is to keep doing what you're doing, as you are on the right track. Your dot uptime, once you factor in the last 10s or so where your log didn't turn off, is just shy of 95%. For a demonology build with a lot of buttons to push this is pretty good.


A note on resistances: Each level a target has above you grants them 5 resistance to all schools of magic. A boss is 3 levels, so he has 15 permanent resistance that you cannot bypass with spell pen. Since the resistance cap is (83 x 5) = 415, which mitigates 75% of total damage, this means that you lose (15 / 415) x .75 = 2.7% damage on bosses vs lvl 80 targets.

You're doing fine, but try to press Conflag and Chaos Bolt more often. It seems that you're letting an extra incinerate slip out now and then, which pushes your conflag and chaos bolt back by 1.8s per time. You should have been able to get out 2 more conflags and 4 more chaos bolts, and keep in mind that those 2 extra conflags would have been worth 6% dps to incinerate, chaos, and immolate if they crit.

I'd also suggest getting a bigger monitor if able, as the amount of space taken up by your ui is considerable, which means your raid awareness is impaired. The difference between someone who can react fast based on events on his screen and someone who is slowed by too much stuff on his/her screen is about 500-1000 dps.

3300 is the best you can get in that gear. If you are doing poorly in specific fights then please tell me which ones you are having a problem with and I can help you.

Congratulations on 7400 achievement points in that gear. I am impressed.

So, I'm running affliction for the Fel Int buff in ToC25, and my dps is okay. It's not great, but it's okay. By the end of the night, I was running about 3.9, so it's not that I'm terribly unhappy. I just want to know if I can squeeze anything else out of my spec.

Your spec is kicking your ass. You are missing:
-1 point in shadow embrace (2% damage?!)
-Eradication (30% haste with 33% uptime = 10% haste = 320 haste rating, all the damn time)
-You have suppression but are beyond the hit cap
-No Deaths Embrace gimps your drain soul ticks.
-Glyph of Life Tap, Haunt, and Agony. Shadow Bolt sucks and Corruption just means you do Shadow Bolt too much.

At a glance, this works out to at least 600-700 dps.

Ditch both range talents, and go with something like this

Also - People claim that Affliction is amazing for faction champs but the end result is that its just as good as any other warlock spec. Just because you can spread corruption around doesn't mean thats a dps increase. Unholy DK's have a one button "LOL I GAVE THE RAID AIDS" where as we require one button per target, minimum.

Thus, your dps is being brought down by fights like this one, fights like Jaraxxus (you didn't stay on the boss full time i bet, and im sure your dots didnt fully tick on adds). This parse also includes wipes (830 x 3 / 60 = 41 minutes, or 9.5 minutes a boss, which is excessively high) which will affect your net result.

At a glance:
-You rain of fire too much. I'm not sure why.
-Who provided Elements?
-Drain soul needs to be used more during the execute phase, 80 ticks isn't a lot for 4 "true" bosses.
-UA needs higher uptime. I assume you tab-dotted Agony and Corruption on Snobolds and Faction Champs, so I don't know how much this could change.
-Too much hit rating, but you probably know this.

It is true, to my great embarrassment. That Abyssal Rune continues to elude me.
UA and Drain Soul = more of both. Noted.
CoE was provided by the destro warlock in the guild, who was running around 4.7k dps for the run. I want to catch up.
RoF was during the whelps phase in Ony, which I neglected to mention in my original post. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgi - oh, I can't even keep a straight face for that.

Gonna do some screwing about with the spec, and I'll post a dps screenshot after Uld25 tonight.

@Toogood - You should fall just short of around 3000 dps on a boss level target dummy with absolutely zero debuffs (ie using doom instead of elements). This will translate to around 4800 dps on a patchwerk-like boss.

@Dream - Good show. Look forward to it. Ony comment - LOL, and yeah those ticks add up fast. I was wondering what the hell you were doing where you could cast 50+ RoF's in TOC and still have time for 830 corruption ticks.

So I took a brief hiatus from the game for awhile, then came back and decided to continue to work on my warlock.

After a few H ToC runs [5man] and a 10man VoA, I became...curious about my dps.

in 5man ToC I was doing 3.3-3.5k [topped out at about 3.8k] and during VoA I was around 3.5-4.0k dps.

These numbers aren't terrible persay but I honestly don't know what my output should be with my gear and what exactly I should do to improve it. I've just started to get back into PvE and with the 3.3 changes I expect to be able to get gear a bit easier as I'm currently guildless and what not.

My rotation for boss fights [all i'm concerned about really] is: CoE, Imm/conflag/CB/Inc/Inc/conflag/inc/Imm/CB then and I usually stick to something around that. Basically I start casting immolate right before the last tick, I use conflag whenver it's up same with chaos bolt, when everything else is on cooldown I use incinerate.

I use Imp as my pet which is obviously autoattacking the boss.

For some reason I think I should or could be pulling more dps than I am but I can't figure out what I could do differently with my current gear.

try to get hit capped before you worry about haste. also, try to get ur crit chance to about 30%+

Theres not a lot you can do. Just make sure you do something while moving for more dps, such as life tap or Corruption. Waiting for armory to load.... Oh hey! Fellow Rexxarian!
You should be able to hit 3k on a boss target dummy (or just shy of) without any buffs other than Stone and Fel Armor. IE No CoE. Thus you will be able to hit 4800 in a "perfect situation" raid.

Yep, you're pretty decent. I can't add anything you probably don't already know.

The mages. Hmmm. I have a few guesses.
Here is the meter for my GM on Heroic Beasts

First and foremost, my GM has 6% more crit and does ~1300 more damage per hit on Arcane Blast. This is not what we're comparing. Frequency of Blast to Missiles is more important. 109:112 for my mage, 129:110 for yours. This points to several possibilities:

1) Bad luck with Missile Barrage. This is unlikely as the result of this would cause more sporadic dps ups and downs. They are consistently down.

2) Mana issues or "fishing" issues. Arcane has been described as "Blast until you get Missile Barrage, A.Missiles, repeat". This will result in mana issues most of the time, forcing potion use on top of gems and evocate. However, they could also be following a set rotation - Blast 3 times, A.Missiles. This will fix the mana issue but will return with lower dps if you either proc on the first ABlast or not at all.

3) Movement. They may be moving too frequently (not blink, that doesn't count) causing issues with rotations and timing.

Lastly, they are using Arcane Barrage more than they should. It is a "While Moving" spell only, and only after AMissiles. It consumes your Blast charges without consuming your Missile Barrage proc, rendering AMissiles lower dps when you do cast it, or lowered dps because you simply don't use the proc. I would consider it a last resort button to make sure you get the damage buff from ABlast before it expires.

Yeah, self buffed on the boss dummy I'm doing 3200dps.

Lifetapping/Corruption while moving is a good idea, I would just use lifetap when moving, but never thought to use corruption for some reason, definitely helps keep the #'s up on movement intensive fights.

Well good to know I'm doing what I should be doing with my current gear, makes me feel better instead of "gdi I'm not pulling my own weight!" heh
