    Recount and DOT Uptime.

So I just got done with a Target Dummy.

    Recount reads as so:
    DOT Uptime:
    345 (2.6 , 100%)

When I mouse of it it says:

    DP 120 (34%)
    SW:P 120(34%)
    VT 105(30%)

Now I read on here that people are saying they get dot uptime to 95% or better on each of those spells. Am I looking at the right thing? What add on are you using to figure out the dot time? Or am I just in left field on what y'all actually mean?

Well no the thing in the brackets is the percentage of your damage that is done with that spell, now if they were 95%+ each you'd be doing like 280% dps which makes no sense. Anyway to figure out dot uptime its:

    Fight length/3 = x
(x/Number of ticks of a particular dot)x100= Dot uptime percent
    ** / is divided by

As per the above post, work out your combat time in seconds and from that you can work out what the max possible number of dot ticks were possible and then compare that result with the actual.

This will be a bit harder to do in 3.3 because you'll have to accomodate for haste.

Tell me about it. On the PTR I was tripping all over my refresh times.

    Re: Recount and DOT Uptime.

I thank you two for the response. I just finished with a target dummy and tried to use your formula. I got fight length= 128.7s

    So I did 128.7/3 = 42.9 (x)

Then I clicked on recount and saw it counted 42 of all my spells (SW:P, DP, and VT). So I entered 42.9/42. Which causes my % to be higher than 100% and that cannot be possible lol.

I am assuming I did something wrong here and would appreciate it if someone could inform me how to do this properly.

    Re: Recount and DOT Uptime.

try dividing the other way around?

you are meant to put the maximum possible ticks on the denominator

As someone said above the max possible ticks needs to be what you divide by... ie. Ticks you did get / max possible ticks... you did that calculation the other way around.

Also in this isntance the max possible ticks was actually 42 because another tick couldn't have occured utnil 129 seconds... so if you got 42 you had a 100% dot uptime which I find hard to believe. Perhaps you cast one of your DoTs as the very first spell of the parse but the others are delayed by at least a GCD... so I would also assume your fight duration is incorrect somehow.
