Thread: Tanking Addons?

Tanking Addons?

Just bought Duel Spec with my paladin, crafted some low level tanking gear (I am 72). Is there any addons that I should be running to help with tanking? IE) Something to track CD's and durations...mainly Holy Shield and Cons.

Or if theres anything I should be running, that would help too. Not running anything atm.

Omen Threat Meter is the only addon you need as a paladin tank.
Oh, and maybe some good raid frames for strategic lay on hands use ;-)

Pala tanks have a very straight forward 969 rotation so there's not really anything special to it.

http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-a...cooldowns.aspx (shows a number countdown on your actionbar icon for a select spell's cooldown)

(everyone should have this, not just tanks)

http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/deadly-boss-mods.aspx[/ur] (everyone should have this, not just tanks)

http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-a...eat-meter.aspx (again, tanks and dps definitely need this, healers somwhat, but not as much)

http://www.wowinterface.com/download...Tankadin2.html (I personally don't use this anymore, but it's nice when you first start)

http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-a...ails/grid.aspx (only use it for the little red box that appears when someone takes aggro lol)

And, that's about it. Obviously Bartender4 or some other action bar and maybe a health frames for you, target, and target's target (I use Pitbull myself)

EDIT** Also, check out http://maintankadin.failsafedesign.com/ for good tanking guides for paladins.

I like Aloft (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...AloftBeta.html), nameplates glowing depending on whether you have the aggro or not (and how much aggro) is nice for AoE tanking.
I don't hate you. I'm just not necessarily excited about your existence.

clcret Prot module is decent for watching your cooldowns and maintaining your rotation, especially if you have hidden key binds.

If you're not already using it, use PallyPower. Or ZOMGBuffs if you want a far more complicated, less used, buff mod.

Re: Tanking Addons?

I use:

Healbot.... Since I have a resto shammy already, I use it to track people's health to see who is taking damage. I then bind things like Righteous Defense and HoS to spells to I can quickly click the person and fire the spell in 1 click

Littlewigs... Like DBM for regular 5 mans (does DBM do regular 5 mans?)

Omen.... Threat mod to show you where you are on TPS

Pallypower... More for raids I guess. Some healers want BoK, some BoW.

I recently started using OptiTaunt for when taunts are immune and shouting important trinkets/cd's

PowerAuras, it's a mod that can flash an icon in the middle of your screen when you skill is ready or when you're affected by a specific Buff/Debuff.

Re: Tanking Addons?

Most of the addons I use have already been mentioned, but I'll add one more: TauntTattle.

All it does is add a message to your chat log when somebody (including yourself, which is slightly annoying) casts a taunt, saying who they are, what they used (Taunt, Hand of Reckoning, Righteous Defense, etc) and who they taunted.

Useful more in raids, when you're not sure if the other tank heard the command to taunt the boss or not, and when you have DPS suddenly pull aggro and claim they didn't taunt.

Basicaly what the others above me said. One more i can add is TankWarnings.IT's pretty handy for raids since it announces on raid warning if you used any of your cooldowns and alerts your raid members.

I enjoy IceHUD more than Power auras: Although they are identical, IceHUD can sync to Omen and display your threat in a side bar next to the image in the center of the screen.
