    Help with shadowpriest in raids

Hello mates, this is my first post here att MMO champion. This is the thing i want to take up, 3 days ago i dinged 80. I got 4 boe epics (I dident have time to do any heroics this 3 days), and when im goin to a heroic my dps is like 1200-1400 on a boss target, do this suck? or is it normal, you can check my char "Zemis" at dunemaul.

Well my stats, isn't the best ones so that might be the reason, but 1.2k dps...

    Spellpower: 1288(without Inner fire!)
    Crit chance: 7.91
    Hit rating: 61
    Specc: 13/0/58

My gear might be the reason for this dps, but will i get much more dps if i get hit cap, more crit and spellpower?

    Thanks

Well its one part gear issue and most likely another part you being new to the priest class.

I will hit on some gear points first then after rotation/mod tips.

First a shadow priest raiding spec.

    http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#bVcbhZZGxfVRfzcfqfzAo

This is one of the main shadow priest raiding specs. there are a few out there that differ slightly. but this is probably the most cookie cutter spec for a shadow priest.

also using the above spec you pick up full hit tallents. that means your hit cap is 288.8 hit needed.. just go for 290 to make it easy. your new.. min maxing is not your thing yet.

at the moment getting hit cap is your very first priority. once you get hitcap you will want spellpower. then crit.. obviously this is a very basic explanation i will not go into the whole crit/haste issue or anything like that.. just remember come 3.3 haste will be insanely valuable to you even double the value of crit.

so ya.. those are the two points you should go for asap. spec and hit rating. very basic as you are very new.

    lastly is your casting rotation.

On a raid boss fight your rotation should be Vamperic touch, mind blast, devouring plauge, mind flay (till 5 stack shadow weaving) then shadow word pain..

after the initial rotation you go into your dot upkeep cycle while keeping mind blast on cooldown and filling with mind flay. for you being a beginner just focus on that rotation.. try to not clip the final ticks of your dots.. and always clip you mindflays at 2 or 3 ticks.. never 1 and never inbetween.

a good mod for this is quartz casting bar with the mf2 addon. also you can use quartz to keep track of your dots in a very precise manner.. to make them easy to manage.

playing a shadow priest is like trying to put a puzzle together.. the tighter your puzzle pieces (rotation) is.. the better you do. your goal is to make everything fit together perfectly with minimal dead space.

But i hope you realize that the shadow priest is not an easy class to "top charts on". it takes insane amounts of time skill and gear to become so efficient at the priest class that you can compete with every other class.. its not easy and its not a given right like most classes. this is not a one button win spec. i have played every class in the game and i must say that after the affliction changes shadow priests are the most complex dps spec in the game..

hope this helps a bit.. enjoy the shadow priest..

Y'know, I hear there's this thing. It's called a Sticky, and it's at the top of each section. In particular, a Shadow DPS 101 sticky catches my eye. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

your gear sucks and that's why your dps sucks

and no, every other class will do more dps than you if they're in similar gear.

but hey, spriests get to look like shadow though and that's why you leveled it to 80 right?

roll another toon, get used to NOT doing as much dps as everyone else or join a bad guild where you may be able to shine.

you will never be more valuable to a raid than your peers unless they all play spriests too

You are, that's why he said:

Seriously, read the sticky... and for the people posting information and not directing people like this to the sticky, you are half the problem.

I know, it's like feeding a dog at the table, but they look at you with those big liquid eyes filled with hopeless devotion to you, or at least your dinner, and resistance crumbles.

Re: Help with shadowpriest in raids

Zemis I can't find any priest on Dunemaul. Or any priest other than the 3 that are lvl 25 and under. Are you playing on the EU server? As far as the talent breakdown, 13/0/58 is the norm but without seeing your build I can't say if you've got the "right" talents. Kootz did post what is the cookie cutter build but keep in mind that you can drop 1 point in imp shadowform to pick up psychic horror for pvp survivabity (and it does have uses in pve too).

Given the stats you posted, your dps isn't entirely bad given your gear probably isn't that great. As for people telling you to get more hit, that's not needed until you start doing raids. Shadow priests are hit capped with talents for dungeons & heroics. If/when you start doing raids you will want to start gemming hit until you have 289 hit rating (that's our hit cap).
