    Black Heart?
    but thats ilvl 200!

it weighs me wayyy down on those gearcheckers.

    i already have icks thumb
also a friend of mine was debating that the triumph one (1792 armor) was really good when i was like bull! that thing is crap! 1792 armor is like 1.5% dmg reduction at most (its another devotion aura but when we have so much armor these days - im sitting at 28k ish selfbuffed - that little extra does nothing)

I mean, i'd PREFER BH over ICK'S THUMB because everyone compares you based on your HP

LOL that tank has 41k when the other has 42k. 42k tank is main tank.
    -_-
even though i have like 5% more avoidance...

but i cant keep BH because of its massively low itemlvl

    speculate...

So don't deal with the idiots who care about score. You'll just be a worse tank for it. For a balanced trinket, BH is one of the best in the game currently, for its combination of HP and armor. I find Ick's Thumb to be rather sub par. BH and Skele key is probably the best combo.

And as for the Triumph badge trinket, that trinket is also really good. Armor is the most constant stat in the game, in that its value never diminishes as it gets higher, unless you hit the 75% cap. Its a great trinket, its just there are better options for a paladin.

For trinkets, I prefer to have one Avoidance trinket and one Stamina trinket. So right now, I have http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47727 and http://www.wowhead.com/?item=45158.

I would keep the ony trinket around for melee heavy fights that aren't very damage intensive though.

you don't have any idea what defense does do you?

    Re: Prot trinkets

use the stam ones in raids. the ony one is great for heroics where you dont need 50k HP and the extra avoidance means you get a lot more mana back (since you dont get hit...ever).

Saying it's 1.5% reduction just makes you look clueless (it's close to 4% actually)
1 Armor is equal to about 1 HP, when it comes to mitigatable damage => 12.5 Armor ~ 1 Stamina => it's about 144 Stamina.

    I use Death's Verdict for heroics :

And absolutely no idea, what armor does.

when i have over 570 defense im told that its not all that big a deal
okay okay i guess it helps some
it just pains me that i was spending hundreds of gold trying to reach the cap 2 weeks ago when i first dingd 80, and now i'm many points over said soft "cap" with no gems of defense at all

And from 60% to 61.5% reduction is about 4% less damage taken -.- (38.5/40 => do the math)

stop using the word "cap" in relation to defense, there is no cap at all, simply a minimum needed for crit immunity.

as of 3.2 defense will give you more avoidance per point than dodge or parry (assumes your dodge/parry ratio is reasonably close to ideal)

45.25 dodge or parry rating = 1% dodge or parry pre DR
    ~41 defense rating = 1% dodge+miss+parry pre DR and 0.33% block

this ignores the stepwise nature of defense rating to defense skill conversion

Does this mean that a 10 def. 15 stamina + 6 sta socket bonus is better than a 30 stamina or a 10 dodge rating 15 stamina without socket bonus?

Ive been tanking for a while, and I've always found running w/ a stam trink and an avoidance trink seems to work out the best ;D
