ya know, why has this never been expanded upon?

I don't understand why blizzard has never let players inscribe runes into their bodies. Obviously they are powerful and look amazing. Several NPC's already have rune tattoos and they look amazing!

Considering most gear covers your whole body, it would be pointless to implement because of looks, whereas giving them powers or abilities or stats would be more useful. As you can't see them though, it wouldn't be anything different than a helm enchant, except you could see them when you're naked.

If there was a monk/runemaster class, then yeah, I could see this being a feature, but until we can retain the same stats from our gear without actually showing it, I don't really see the point.

On the other hand, I agree, they do look badass. They remind me of the tattoos you can get in Fable.

Re: ya know, why has this never been expanded upon?

There's a very good reason why player-dwarves, the ironforge ones, don't. It's because they tend to think of themselves as more 'civilized' than their aptly-named Wildhammer cousins. They broke off from one another in the War of Three Hammers.

But the idea itself is pretty cool, I don't remember the source exactly but I think there was a blue post somewhere that said Blizzard kept the character design interface simple on purpose. It would be a great idea to be able to further customize characters, but they said they wanted anyone to be able to just jump in and play, not have to spend a half hour making some crazy unique guy like most other video games like that do, I cite recent guitar hero's as an example.

Would be nice for cataclysm, but unfortunately at the moment we aren't getting Wildhammer dwarves as a race.

of course, you could have tattoos as an equipable item slow, like you would have a chest tattoo instead of a chest armor piece. Even if that is lifted straight from guild wars.

but, what armor class would that be? would get a bit wierd, if they were classified as cloth and they brought in some sort of clothie melee class that utilised sp as it's main stats, like a demonhunter, that would coincide with the tattoos too, then it'd be cool.

but, anything else using the tattoos with their other gear would looks strange, mixing and matchign armors + tatooes, and visa versa would look strange, a guy looking like a mage dual wielding swords.

The very concept of armor does negate the point of any visible tattoos or runes on the body, but there is already plenty of options for modifying gear, and even more so coming with the runeforging mechanic.

I agree that more detailed character customisation, more than an expression, few features and hair colour/style would be welcome, but that is the least of their concerns I am sure, and I would rather see more effort on the mechanics and fixing other long term issues instead of making the game prettier and making even recent computers struggle more with the game.

well, i meant like tattoos on the face, or make more gear compatible with it, like show areas on the arm where they can get put so you see them.

In general, we need more customization options, you should be able to custom tailor your gear for color and style (to a degree) you should be able to customize weight and bulk of your character, and tatoos even. In general we need more customization

The runemaster class, which enscribes runes on their own bodies to attain power, was one of the final class ideas Blizzard had for the WotLK expansion. It was cut in favor of the better feel of DK's but the idea has certainly been thrown around.

I could imagine a new profession where tatooing would be included into. Tatoos of diferent kinds which added certain stats. Runic, demonic, elven, tribal and loa tatoos. Each would increase aspects of certain spec or roles.

What other stuff this profession would do I dont know, but its a start.
