MP5 for Holy/Disc Priests and gear questions

I'm starting to get some healing gear running new heroics etc. But i'm reading threads and stickies that MP5 is not that great for healing priests.

Right now I have specced holy.

For example I just got this http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50227 and http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50196.

I understand best stats order is int --> spirit

Should I still use the above until something with pure Spirit comes up (which I have't seen yet)?

I'm getting T9 slowly any other items worth getting?

Intellect will be on every peice of gear that you get. That's all there is to it. Intellect is your primary mana scaling stat, with raidbuffs present and cooldowns being used properly.

There are zero +Spirit items that are without Intellect. If an item has Spirit, it is usually better than an item with mp5, but it depends on the numbers and other factors. Intellect will always be there.

If you need to gem for regen because your gear is not supporting you, start out with nothing but Intellect. As you slowly start to switch your gear for thoroughput, but are hesitant about dropping Regen, a Purified gem (Spellpower/Spirit) in your blues (and maybe your reds) is a good "medium" component, but you should focus on being able to drop those altogether, through better spell usage etc, so that sooner or later all you need is Runic for Red, and blue, and either a Runic or a Reckless for yellow (I like Reckless, myself).


All of this is for Holy.

If you're Discipline, stack Intellect until you never go OoM in the average boss fight. If you're not using your Shadowfiend or Potion, and you're still coming out ahead, you have too much, so drop as much as you can to replace it with Spell Power.

Basically Kelesti said it already, but I need to increase the postcounter, so;

The only reason to care for Intellect and Spirit, is IF you go OOM during fights, even AFTER using SF and a potion.

Now, since we don't have any Armory link it's hard to judge, but to enter the last tier of raid, ICC, you need roughly 25k mana as Discipline and 22k mana as Holy.

Once you reach this unbuffed, you can start sharpening you gear, based on how many times you go OOM, if you never go and regem sp/whatever, and such.
