Re: Guide to playing WoW on a Mac

I kind of know where Cubs is coming from, as I am in the Tech Support field and it's literally everyday that I think to myself that the hours I just spent helping someone with their issues seems elementary to me, and all I want to do is tell the person on the other end to RTFM! However, I've come to realize that it's the sharing of knowledge that allows all of us to grow in terms of what we know and then, we are more adept at passing that along to others.

I like to use the ergodex keyboard input. About a year ago a company created the software for a Mac version.

I didn't see it mentioned (but might've missed it) but if you really want to run Windows, you still can on your Mac.

Edit #2: I reread the OP. Very helpful and answered a lot of my questions

I still have one... why is that everyone says Macs are awful for gaming? Is it because you cannot easily upgrade it?

Re: Guide to playing WoW on a Mac

"Help! I need all my addons to play WoW but I can’t get them on Macs!?
Relax, you can! All addons fully compatible with Macs. They are programmed only to fit with WoW, not with a particular Operating System. If you find any that aren’t compatible, which is highly unlikely, they are either not worth having, or alternatives would be available

The only exception to this is probably botting programs/hacking programs, which you should not be using anyway!"

There is such an easier way of getting all your addons- the Curse Mac client.
I use it without a problem, you just DL the mac version of the client (BETA V4) and you will be able to have any addon.

You can use the curse client. However, I know a lot of people don't like using them as there was some security flaws not long ago, so I didn't include it. I will add a sentence about it though, thanks for the tip.

I thought about adding a section about using Windows on Mac, but figured most people knew how to do that. I'll add a small part about using Windows on Mac though. Thanks.

Traditionally Macs have not been very good for gaming, because of 2 main reasons:
    1. Hardware - typically Macs were not built to handle games, they were classically workstations. Thankfully this is changing, although unless you get a Mac Pro (or possibly Mac Mini), your upgrade options are quite limited.
    2. Software - Many games producers did not, and most still do not, produce Mac versions of their games. Some produce them at a later date. Thankfully Blizzard made a dedicated Mac client for us

Also changed title of the thread as some people were getting a bit upset about me calling it a guide, so it's now Guide/FAQ.

Re: Guide/FAQ to playing WoW on a Mac

I personally play wow on a Late 2009 iMac, core 2 duo, ATI 4850 512mm with 8gb RAM, and personally I have anywhere from 60-180 FPS on ultra settings @ 2560x1440 resolution.

Obviously the better your hardware, the better your FPS will likely be. The exception perhaps being that the 27” iMac with ATI 4670 HD card may see lower FPS than the 21” iMac with same graphics card - this is because the 27” uses a higher resolution.
What's your FPS during a 25 man raid?

I think you have missed the point of this whole thing mate if we wanted a pc we would be like the mass of sheep and buy one.

But great topic, this is great to see a stop to the "fail wow on mac" I have been using wow on a mac pretty much since launch and it has always ran like a charm. I am using a Logitech g15 gaming keyboard and Logitech mouse on a 24inch 2.8ghz desktop and both of them are fully supported with drivers and software. Addon's are addon's there might not be a client there but hey paste em into ur addon folder and ur in business. Well done Tinkerbelle keep up the great work mate
