The bands I'm listening to most at the moment is

    Megadeth
    Slayer
Metallica (Yerh I actually like all their albums, but I place Load, Reload and st. Anger lower on the list.)
    The Psyke Project
    Mastodon
    Pantera
I listened to Tool some years ago
    Iron Maiden
    Diamond Head
    Black Sabbath
    System of a down

I'm most into the thrash style.

Sepultura - friend gave me some tapes from them back in 1996 Love the old stuff with Max.

Rammstein - First album I got was Sehnsucht in 1997, love them since! Also seeing them live in concert from first row, when you feel the heat from Till's burning coat in your face was awesome

Apocalyptica - Listened first to Inqusition Symphony in 1998. Shame, I didn't start earlier

Slipknot - 1999 with their first album.

Also listen a lot to Slayer, Megadeth, Godsmack, SOAD, Metallica, Nevermore and others.

Yeah, my music taste was formed in the last millenia ;D

    Sabaton

    Gamma Ray

    Freedom Call

    Masterplan

I find these my favourites, mostly because I can't stand metal where I cannot understand lyrics.
I enjoy to listen singing as it tells what the song is about.
Best I know is good music combined with good and well sung lyrics

    Re: Metal

Sigh's Hangman's Hymn is such a great album..

Sure, it's 44 minutes of the same thrash drums/blast beat driven avant-garde post-black metal, but it's fucking awesome.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBhQY-Kgwfs

Can't say I'm too fond of their other albums, but it's still all great.
I just prefer Hangman's Hymn's fast, almost symphonic sound. But it's all crazy, eccentric stuff.

    Re: Metal

Eluveitie, they're bloody awesome epic/folk metal with a dash of death metal.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iijKLHCQw5o

Elvenking, another epic/folk metal band that's really good.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhiBN...eature=related

Equilibrium, a very good german band of the same type as Eluveitie.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PO8-i...eature=related

How I got into them? Pure luck :P I'm still on the look-out for similarly awesome bands.

lol saw this and had to /facepalm hope this dude was just joking around...

To the post the reason I listen to metal is the overwhelming feeling it gives you to KICK ASS! You feel so empowered by it, how can you go wrong? I really enjoy the 'release' you feel from listening to a good Metal CD at full blast while bombing around in your car.

Godforbid (Friend just showed them to me and I can't stop listening!)
Lamb of God (The only thing I like about the South)
Darkest Hour (Don't think I saw anyone else mention them, their Melodic Metal and remind me of Dream Theatre)
In Flames (SWEDISH! can't go wrong w/ Swedish metal)
    The Haunted (Their Swedish!)
Clifton (They started in SLC, know some of them personally and love their music.)
Dethklok (you could consider them Mainstream, been in the top 20 on Billboard's top 200 and they aren't even a 'real' band... lol)

those are some. I have seen alot of people mentioning August Burns Red. I used to listen to them a lot but after a while all the Christian Themes get old and aren't that 'metal' IMO but that is me....

    Re: Metal

Megadeth - My most favorite band of all. I love the speed, intensity, amazing guitar solos, and the brutally honest lyrics.

Dio - A legend of metal, that's all there is to say.

Iron Maiden - The first metal band I ever listen to. When I first heard that soul stealing scream from Bruce at the beginning of Number of the Beast I knew from then on, metal was my calling.

Metallica (I only really listen to the songs Dave Mustaine wrote)
    Pantera
    Amon Amarth
    Rob Zombie
    Seether
    Slipknot
    Ozzy
    Lamb of Gad
    Korn
    Judas Priest
    Godsmack
    Disturbed
    Dethklok
    Alice Cooper
    etc.

    Re: Metal

    Amon Amarth
Dark Tranquillity - Seriously, I read all the pages and I think NO-ONE mentioned DT!?
    Ensiferum
Insomnium - Band which is from the same city I live in <3 their melancholic lyrics.
Iron Maiden - The band which ignited my metalhead spirit.
Judas Priest - Rob Halford, need I say more?
    Kalmah
    Kiuas
    Nile
Swallow the Sun - Psychopath's Lair must be my favourite song from them.
    Turisas
    Wintersun - Waiting for Time...

This list is in no way all of the bands I listen to. As you can see I listen to many metal genres and I don't really care what genre the band is, as long as the music & lyrics are good, I will listen to them.
