naw man, I didn't even gave them a listen or anything. I did listen to some songs on youtube yesterday, though, just seemed like an average non average black metal band. Doesn't seem bad but not something I would listen to much, either. I just commented on their appearance in that live video, it's one of those weird moments when you realise you would like panda corpsepaint spikes goat skin better. I mean, just look at that dude with a baseball cap and the faces the vocalist is making... lol

I don't see the big deal with Liturgy. Listened to the album a while ago when it was streamed around the previous Roadburn festival time.

The production was very awkward. Didn't make the album much more enjoyable really. And the music wasn't bad. It just wasn't anything near it was hyped up to be. They're pretty good at making a stirring but it's more because of HHH's mucking about than the actual music far as I'm concerned.

Here's an interview with Liturgy's Hunter Hunt-Hendrix if someone's interested.

Thanks man. Well, celtic tribes existed in the Iberian Peninsula. Anyway, for the sake of folk metal, the music we enjoy.
A couple more songs are online and we'll be releasing the CD this week, if anyone would like to support us it's really welcome: http://www.facebook.com/eldelvarfolk

Wow, that was... wow... I think this guy really spends too much time on the anus.com forums. I also thought it was funny when he mentions his manuscript and all the other band members start looking annoyed or embarrassed, they are probably all thinking: "not this shit again..."

It's basically what I said about them making a stir. That's the sort of shit that'll get all the anti-hipster metal boards riled up. *shrug* If that's what you want to do to get your band 'out there', so be it.

Also, because of this thread I just spent the best part of 2 hours listening to Urfaust.

    LOL

While I agree that black metal is often very silly, this guy is a total pretentious douchebag. I couldn't get through more than the first 4 minutes. And his bandmates look like they want to just punch him in the face repeatedly.

Got an hour? Sit down and listen to one of the more ambitious metal songs ever written, by one of the members of Emperor no less. The song isn't black metal though, I'd say its sorta doom/progressive. Great vocals, amazing guitarwork by Tchort.

    Oh boy, where to begin,

Týr - Nordic lore, whats not to love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fu2bgwcv43o

Mithotyn / Falconer - Basically the same bands as Falconer was formed after Mithotyn split. The music is the same, they just changed vocals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=po3XdK1DuJY

Sabaton - War metal, nuf said. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNlRqyUV4ss

Here's a little symphonic black for fans of that style, it's actually an American band formed by a couple of the guys from Testament:

I have to say I really like it. One of the most annoying things about normal black metal for me is the raw recording and terrible quality (which I realize is supposed to be a part of the style).

I do not care how "mainstream" these bands may be. Nothing mainstream about music that I scare my neighbors with.

These are 2 of the main bands that introduced my to the punch in the face that metal can be. In my opinion 2 of the best there is at what they do.

Now some Phil Anselmo. I directly relate my love of metal to my love of Pantera. Not the music so much as the lifestyle. Pantera III anyone? The best band flick ever.

My roommate went to the Down show. Said it was insane. Doing blow of amps and shit mid-song.

Since nobody has posted since, I must insist:

Now, I realize there is nothing too artsy about these guys, but they fucking rock! I thought drummer was a machine years ago. My friends that play said that they had to be machine - on older albums.

Yea Jon was really never the best singer, but his voice is so raw, it just really works. One of my favorites, and just goes to show that even on the last Savatage album, he was still cranking out amazing songs. He's of course a brilliant songwriter, even if his voice is a bit worse for wear these days.

and on the subject of bands I never got to see, here is another one. Probably my favorite Metal Guitarist out there right now.

Re: Misery Index. Sorry to say, but pretty much nothing they did since has topped this song. Not to take away from the newer endeavours, but this one just has that bounce that makes it spot on. I find it to be missing a bit since.

//edit: Sidenote, it's small wonder that The Great Depression has that same-ish bounce. I think it's mostly the change of drummer that caused them to lose some of the hardcore vibe.
