New Parkway Drive album is streaming:
After finishing first listen - this is really, really awesome. It is easily their most diverse and mature album they have ever released. It has a pretty brooding atmosphere that is slightly present on Deep Blue but is much more expanded here, with more guitar soloes/leads and clean guitar parts than they have ever used, as well as a few surprises (clean female vocals in a Parkway Drive track?). I am definitely impressed.
Also contains relatively few breakdowns by Parkway standards for those people who are for some reason offended by a sudden drop in tempo.

So there's viking metal, pirate metal, ninja metal... But where's the cowboy metal?
I was thinking more about running the whole thing as a motif. Hats and leather bootstraps, lyrics about train robberies and saloon shootouts, melodies inspired by spaghetti western soundtracks, etc.
Always love me some Gojira, favourite song from L'Enfant Sauvage
For those interested in some black metal, Summoning is amazing. All of their songs and lyrics take influence from J.R.R. Tolkein's Lord of the Rings poems/ballads/etc. The way they sort of present the lyrics and music, it seems like they have a complete different perspective on the culture and motifs scattered throughout Middle-Earth in contrast to Peter Jackson (Their 3 albums were made in the mid to late 90s).
I don't really know how to put the video up correctly, so I'll just link it.
2 days to go until the new Pig Destroyer and Neurosis albums get released. Cannot friggin wait!
I realise this is pushing it for this particular thread, but these lyrics are absolutely awesome:
Ron Jarzombek. *cringe*

Here's one for BadPaladin.
Ron Jarzombek reminded me of
Apparently deer are very metal.
So the new PxDx disk arrived along with new beast by Neurosis. Having given them both a preliminary spin I think my 1st and 2nd spots for album of the year are cemented.
Book Burner kicks some serious ass. It's probably the most accessible Pig Destroyer have ever been while retaining their intensity while diversifying their sound considerably. It really is friggin awesome. Not sure it's my favorite album of theirs but you never know. You can't really judge after just one spin.
Neurosis are Neurosis at the end of the day. They don't actually know how to make a bad record. Album of the year for me no doubt.
There is nothing greater in music for me when some unknown band creates masterpieces like this. I mean, this goes straight to the top of progressive death metal for me, it is in the company of Death, Gorguts, Edge of Sanity, Sadist, and even Atheist. The whole album is free to download at:
Give these guys some metal popularity!
That's my fave Septic Flesh album. Pretty much the only one either. The whole atmosphere of that album is amazing.
Now that we are on Septic Flesh, my favourites (still haven't listened to their first albums though, I should go do that):
(That chorus kills me every time)
This band along with Rotting Christ and some others basically created metal in Greece.
