So, Voivod is going to release a split together with At the Gates this year and this is their half of it. I only knew Voivod by name iirc but this actually sounds pretty good.

Alkaloid (Necrophagist, Aborted and Obscura members) - Cthulhu
Pretty slow paced, but I think they don't really get the mood right for a song about Cthulhu. The foundation is there but they don't really make it, imo.

More ( and better) metal on the topic:

SUMAC released another song off of their upcoming album a few days ago, but only now did I get around to listen to it:

Absoluty stunning song, I hope the rest of the album can live up to this.

Best metal record of the past 10 years? My pick:

It's just so goddamn out of this world.

Ooh, new Leaves' Eyes album in summer 2015. I'm very much looking forward to that one. Only discovered them a couple of years ago, but I've been a big fan since.

I don't think they've released any kind of preview or teaser content, so I'm just going to leave one of my more recent favorites here:

The new Blind Guardian album is indeed good. Almost perfect "metal", so to speak.

I haven't really listened to any new releases this year... I should probably give Xibalba and the new Blind Guardian a listen. But really, the only albums I really look forward right now are Der Weg einer Freiheit and SUMAC.

The fact that at nearly 50 years of age Hans can still sing like he does on the record with such ease is amazing.

The throne is the high point of the album for me.

A lot of And Then There Was Silence to be found on the album, along with the Holy Grail, that sounds like Seasons in the Abyss (really thrashy for such classic power metal).
    My kind of schtic.

I really liked this one from 2015.

avant-garde/prog with some random ethnic and jazz influences that flows extremely well from start to finish, very enjoyable and refreshing to listen to.

O-er Blind Guardian are playing in Bilbao in April.
That's about a 4 hour drive from where I live.

    Road trip time en Espagna.

I'm not sure if I posted this band in here before but this is one of the few 2015 releases that I listened to so far.

Also remembered this band, some pretty solid death metal from Denmark.

edit: woops, posted in the wrong thread. Meant for that last one to go in the "What are you listening to right now?" thread. So I'm replacing it with something more appropriate. Although that Mega Man X OCRemix is fitting, it probably seemed kind of odd to just randomly post it here.

I've been Blind Guardian fan for a really long time, and I love the new release. It's nice to see that these guys are still alive and well.

When I was younger the only bands that actually scared the living heck out of me were Mayhem and Bathory.

There is something incredibly compelling about the noisy din of Bathory, Mayhem and Darkthrone. Today I woke up in the mood for the dark stuff.

  17. #6077
@ Fencers: you will love this then, it's the most insane and dark black metal CD I know.

  18. #6078
I love Dark Tribe! "Iron Grave" is one of my favorites.

Guys, I am serious about this Xibalba record. This record is so goshdarn heavy.

The sound is massive! My husband is a drummer and he loves it too. Playing it so loud my dishes are clinking in the kitchen downstairs. This thing is massive, furious and heavy.

Sure it is somewhat cheesy but I kinda like Hoth. Listening to Oathbreaker and I didn't give this a fair enough shake. It's a lot of fun in all honesty. Maybe a little tiresome over the length of the album. But I wouldn't mind this playing in the background on a snowy day while playing lounging about reading.
